We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa Pearcy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
We love Space. One of our goals is to install solar in space one day. Some of our core values are technology and innovation. We look up to NASA. We work toward the prospect of being a pioneer in our industry with so much to learn, just like we have so much to learn about our Universe. Our original name was Solar Neighborhood, but because we do more than just solar, we didn’t want to limit ourselves. The definition of a Solar Neighborhood is any star within 15 lightyears of the Sun. It reminded us of the universes community. We believe in community. Thus, 15 lightyears became our name.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
“I believe in the power of clean energy. Clean energy is not just renewable and sustainable. It is also positive, simple, authentic, and healthy. I wake up every day to create a world where people harness clean energy to fuel not only their machines, but also their souls.”
My Present Focus
Creating a world where we truly harness clean energy, has become my life’s work. This purpose led me to the current place in my journey as the Owner of 15 lightyears. I am focused on creating a home for our crew and building in Longwood FL our first of many hubs.
To fulfill our “green mission,” we help builders and homeowners create more durable, energy efficient homes and buildings. To do this, we focus on Performance Testing, Solar PV Implementation, and Green Certification.
Who I Do It For
I do what I do to save all of humanity, but I do it especially for my kids. They deserve to live in a beautiful and healthy world, so I am making sure that happens. I feel like it is our responsibility to build positive momentum for the next generation, so they can take the baton even farther in the right direction.
How I Give Back
I believe that the key to creating a cleaner and more sustainable world is empowering people to join this “green mission” through education. We created the 15 lightyears Foundation to do just this. We work with Embrace Families to ensure aging out foster children have exposure to clean energy careers.

Call To Action
Deeply connecting with people who believe what I believe is important to me. If you want to harness the power of clean energy, email me at [email protected] and we can begin the conversation.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that money is the root of all evil. I grew up fairly poor by a single mother, and I was afraid of money and was taught it made people do bad things. Mainly from news stories. I knew more people with less and was told that they had integrity or were considered hard workers. I did not want to ever trade one for the other. Once I started my business I realized money is a catalyst and can be used to lift others. Money is just an energy, a tool to create a good life and can actually create opportunites for others. I had to unlearn that showing off is bad. I learned the difference with showing off and showing it can be done. I learned that showing my accomplishments, leaves room for others to do the same. It creates space for others to see they can do “the thing” and do it better. I gives them exposure and an example that we can do hard things and take risks. Especially as a female CEO, it is increasingly important to me. It is important for me to show that there is space in this world, title, and role for the future females to be great.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I cant tell you how many times we made mistakes but we learned from them and grew. If we didnt profit from a job we had to pull a big lesson from it. We gained our profits in experiences and continued to do more with that knowledge. We truly feel that our integrity and commitment to our mission, our employees, and our customers has paved a beautiful path for us to do wonderful things. Without risk we had no reward. We often jumped before we knew we had a soft place to land. Our goal continues to be the best, do our best, and correct and learn from our mistakes.
