We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Moskovitz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Starting your own practice can be very scary. You’re taking a major leap of faith. There’s a lot of unknown and very little guarantees, but with high risk comes high reward. For me, I realized that opening my own practice was my best option because I was honestly never a great employee. I had big dreams, liked moving at my own pace and always had a certain way I liked to do things. I also move a mile a minute and have been told “you need to slow down – you move way too fast” more times than I can count. Well, that constant ostensible criticism was actually one of my greatest qualities as I believe it helped me launch a 7 figure private practice that I am very proud of today. While I still try to work on slowing down, I know that when you’re first starting out it’s important to plant as many seeds as possible. Then you can slow down and focus on watering them and work on being patient to see them grow and prosper. One thing I do more now than I ever did before is network with colleagues in my field who have different perspectives and experiences. I never hired a business coach in the beginning, but 15 years in and I have found it to be helpful to sit down and pick other people’s brains. I am also a part of a mastermind group that has been instrumental in keeping me accountable with my professional aspirations.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lisa Moskovitz and I am a certified registered dietitian in NYC, CEO of NY Nutrition Group and the author of The Core 3 Healthy Eating Plan.
Nutrition felt like a calling – it combined my love for science with a need to be creative. Food is a basic necessity and the one thing that levels the playing field with humans.
My specialty areas including helping clients form a healthier relationship with their body, with food and with self-care in general. My goal is always to empower my clients to feel confident taking control of their health.
My practice accepts most major health insurance plans as well – I believe nutrition counseling is a necessity, not a luxury.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes, always! I believe this industry chose me.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Never stop learning and information-seeking. You will NEVER know everything, but you can’t let that stop you. Find comfort in that. I truly believe that the most successful people are the ones who accept this truth, but also always strive to grow and improve themselves.
