We recently connected with Lisa Miller and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Last year, my neighbor, her sister and I thought it would be fun to do a podcast about music. After talking about it for several months, I ordered microphones, headphones and a podcast audio recorder. I learned how to use the equipment by watching numerous YouTube videos with a lot of trial and error. We decided to stick with a 30-minute, pre-recorded, audio-only podcast interview format and we called ourselves, Podcast Sistas. Unfortunately, shortly after launching our podcast, my co-hosts decided that they no longer wanted to continue being a part of doing the podcast.
I decided to continue on my own and changed the name to Podcast Sista. This wasn’t a difficult decision for me as I already knew how to manage all aspects of the production, marketing, and booking guests on Podcast Sista. Much to my surprise, it was significantly easier to be on my own and I enjoyed the challenge of strengthening my interviewing skills as a solo podcast host.
The key to this story is to take the time to learn all aspects of running a podcast. This way you do not have to rely on someone else’s knowledge. There are a lot of moving parts that go on behind the scenes of doing a podcast. It is fun, but it takes a great deal of work. To this day I am still learning and enjoying the process of making each and every episode better for my listeners.

Lisa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Cleveland Rocks and so does the new podcast, Podcast Sista, featuring the stories behind the music told by singers, songwriters and musicians. Podcast Sista Lisa Miller from Cleveland, Ohio launched her solo podcast career from her home studio in August 2024 after a short stint as a co-host on the formerly named show, Podcast Sistas. According to Miller, “It is a dream come true for me to be able to interview up-and-coming rising stars in the music industry. My audience is continuing to grow and I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some of the best publicists that book their clients on Podcast Sista to talk about their musical careers, new song releases and music videos, tours, and more.”
The 30-minute podcast format features a pre-recorded, audio only interview along with three song snippets for listeners to get a taste of the artist’s music. Miller said, “I am passionate about having my audience discover and experience new music. It’s one thing to talk about music, but it is another when listeners get to hear it.” Podcast Sista is available on all streaming platforms.
Miller is no stranger to the world of public relations and generating publicity as she has over thirty years of public relations experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from Cleveland State University and her career is full of valuable career experiences including owning a public relations consulting business. Miller added, “At the heart of any successful podcast is how you promote it. I bring that “PR punch” to my podcast’s pre- and post-interview promotions on social media by incorporating reels and posts to enhance the artist’s promotional mix.” According to Jeffrey Panzer, Music Executive and Manager for Singer-Songwriter Danni Stefanetti, “If you’re an up-and-coming artist, Podcast Sista Lisa does great interviews and gives you great exposure as well.”

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Preparation is a must for Miller to make her podcast interviews a success. She plans, organizes and coordinates all the necessary booking details to schedule her podcast guests. In addition, she is known for doing her homework and researching her guests’ background, listening to their music, watching their music videos and previously recorded interviews. Miller said, “It is important to me that during the interview that my guests know I have done my research and will deliver a genuine, personable conversation rather than just a cookie cutter interview.”
Miller added, “For example, when I was interviewing the powerhouse heavy metal rocker Casandra Carson from Paralandra, we were talking about her high school days when she was singing in the choir. She was pleasantly surprised when I brought up that I read that she was also a high school and former college athlete and followed up with the question, “how did being an athlete transfer to who you are today as an artist?” Her response really gave my listeners and her fans an unique perspective on who she is as a person and I think she appreciated that non-routine interview type of question.”
A career highlight for Miller was interviewing the Legendary Country Singer William Lee Golden from the Oakridge Boys and Danni Stefanetti who released their new heartfelt duet, “I’ve Got My Heart on You.” According to Miller, “ It was an incredible opportunity and will always be one of the highlights of my career. It was a real honor to talk with a Country Music Hall of Famer, who has been in the music industry for over 50 years. In addition to playing his newly released single with Danni Stefanetti, Miller played a song snippet of the double platinum “Elvira”, and “I Thought About You, Lord” by the Oakridge Boys featuring Willie Nelson.”

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Miller added, “At the end of the day, all podcasters have the same goal to engage their listeners, build followers, subscriptions, likes and shares. My future goal is to take this podcast to the next level and take my listeners on a musical journey, one great song at a time.”
