Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Mason Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I always wanted to make a tasteful film depicting a woman’s exploration into the multi-facetted world of BDSM… but with a twist.
The whole premise of this new movie is a risk. You know, making a movie in general is a risk, then also revolving the movie around a risky genre.
For example, the movie 50 Shades of Grey was a commercialized BDSM genre movie and was surprisingly received well into the mainstream. There are other films in the same genre that are not as easily accepted, and it has a lot to do with the casting, studio backing or just a possible bad portrayal of the genre. There is a lot of hush-hush and misunderstanding in BDSM. There is a plethora of elements in that world and it’s easy to misjudge from a uneducated standpoint. Whether the media has falsely portrayed the BDSM scene, or a bad apple spoiled the bunch.
I don’t have a doctorates degree in it, but I think it’s important to know there is an absolute fun, safe, fulfilling, therapeutic and rewarding side to it.
We are just giving you a taste of only one side of of the world but with some extra strange elements on top of it :)
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Lisa Mason Lee of LML Productions. I make my own independent films.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Researching the role of “Sky,” for our upcoming film The HouseSitter, has been such an educational and EXCITING journey.
I did not originally set out to make a film based on “some” true events of my life, but just like my first film “Angry Baker,” it just happened the same way.
A little pre-text… Before I wrote my film Angry Baker, I actually worked at the Hollywood cake shop that the movie takes place in. The things that my fellow co-workers and customers said and did there were very borderline. Every day I swear there was a boiling point of crazy drama. It was endless material, so I finally wrote a script based on my time there.
Half of the actors who play the bakers were actually real employees playing themselves and half of the stories like the crazy lady who wanted a sculpted Golden Retriever cake the same day as her order- is a real life person haha.
Just some scenes are based on real events that happened there. Not the killings of course- but the terrible customer behavior was how the idea for the film all started. And to be clear I love my Hollywood Cakes family to the moon and beyond! I love the crew too!
With my new film The HouseSitter, we’ve got an Erotic Psychological Thriller, unlike Angry Baker which is a Comedy-Horror… so there will be plenty of guessing about what’s real, and what’s not in The HouseSitter :)
The HouseSitter is another story based on some pages from my life, but also taken from fantasies in my mind.
The HouseSitter Co-Director/Director of Photographer James Ehman was amazing to work with. He stands back/helps when I want to do something and also steps up when he’s got an idea. It’s a really nice balance working together and hard to come across in the movie world.
We are confident that this journey has led us to tell a perfect story for you.
We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.
So don’t fear the unknown, embrace it!

How’d you meet your business partner?
James, The HouseSitter Co-Director and I first met at a friend’s party. It wasn’t before long, we started sharing our love for art and beauty and then eventually decided to make something cool.
