We were lucky to catch up with Lisa King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I have been a practicing pharmacist for 34 years. I worked in retail pharmacy for over 30 of those years. While I loved my patients, I knew in my heart I had to leave to spend more time with my family and also share my passion for empowering women to look and feel their best at any age.
In a leap of faith, I put in my two week notice at work. On my last day I was offered a job at a closed door pharmacy that specializes in medical foods for patients with genetic metabolic disorders. I work there several days per month and have plenty of time to build memories with my family including my two adorable granddaughters.
This also allows time for me to share on my social media platform, The Fulfilled Pharmacist. The shift in my career has been a huge blessing to me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My brand , The Fulfilled Pharmacist, empowers midlife women to revitalize their health through simple shifts they can incorporate into their daily routine to truly live the life they desire.
My focus is also on solutions for midlife health and menopause including bladder issues.
I share on my social media platforms and have many resources on my website, The Fulfilled Pharmacist.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I have always loved pharmacy and I am thankful for this profession. As I have shifted my focus towards an online platform; I have come to find that many people truly do trust the advice of pharmacists!
I love being able to share about health and wellness whether I am in or out of the pharmacy!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
As a pharmacist, one has to be very compassionate. I always knew that I wanted to work in retail pharmacy. I absolutely love the relationships that I formed there with my patients. Practicing pharmacy truly is more than dispensing medication, it is about human connection!
