We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Jennings recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?

Corporate social responsibility truly matters to companies and their employees these days. Therefore, the most popular type of request we receive for a team building event is one that is fun for guests to participate in, but that also helps a charity. It’s even better if the charity is one that is near and dear to that company’s core business. For instance, we recently hosted a 1000-person Give Back Game Show to benefit Disaster Relief for a client who provides data solutions that this particular charity uses to track locations that are most in need after a natural disaster hits. The game show was completely customized to allow participants to learn about the charity while participating in fun game segments built off of popular TV game shows such as Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and more.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Wildly Different has created and implemented unique team building events, mostly for corporate groups, since 2003. I own the company with a friend and partner, Jane Schuliger. We worked together before starting Wildly Different and we used to dream way back then about using our talents to open our own company. My background is in recreation. I have a degree in Leisure Services from Florida State University and every job I had upon graduating dealt with bringing play-based programs to my target market, whether that was for resort guests, residents of a 55+ community, families/adults living in apartment communities and more! My colleague Jane has a degree in Marketing and worked in meeting planning, so together, we are well suited to produce play-based events for corporate groups who want a team building event to breathe life into their meetings. The reason we are called Wildly Different is that while we do offer some of the same “standard” events that other team building companies offer, we pride ourselves on custom creating the perfect activity to fulfill our clients’ needs. We also take great care to deliver events that make people – who say they typically hate team building – react with a, “Wow – that was the best event we’ve ever done!” We’ve worked with every size group, with our smallest being 5 people and our largest being 3,000 people. Every time we pick up the phone, we never know what “ask” will be waiting on the other end and we adore coming up with creative solutions!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Our ability to customize and come up with creative solutions definitely makes people seek out our services. Also, our willingness to do whatever it takes to deliver a top-notch experience is one we constantly hear clients rave about. We are quick to respond and willing to help any way we can to get our clients what they need. We also ensure we relate to our clients, not as dollar signs and a faceless company employee, but as people – we want them to have fun on the journey and strive to build relationships in order to connect with them in a sincere way!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Delivering on what we promise…and then going the extra mile. We take the time to find out what would be perfect for their team by asking lots of questions to ensure they’ll enjoy the event we host for them. We get back to clients same day – often within minutes – to respond to their questions. Surprise and delight is also something we believe in. For instance, we like to send a gift – something that is impactful vs. a promo item – to our client after each event to say thank you. For instance, we’ll hop on our client’s social media and if we see they are a gardener, we’ll send a small plant for their desk! It’s all of these little things that add up! As a result, we get many repeat clients not only because we treat them right, but because we make them look like rock stars for delivering a fabulous event experience that their group enjoyed!
