We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Jeanette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Actually, find it quite interesting as I was reading this question about “The defining moment in your professional career”. I never actually pictured what I do as a career. I devoted most of my adult life up until now to my children and mothering them and creating love and safety in their life and their home.. so even this question is life-changing and thought-provoking for me to put what I do into the lense of career. Thank you for that I am grateful for this question. To answer this question there was a pivotal moment for me that took my love of music and professional path of singing and performing to the realm of sound healing. I have always been a conscious person connected to my soul. I love yoga and the principles it teaches.. One day, my yoga studio was hosting a Sound Bath and I have never been to one before and my friend Jamie invited me to go with her. I had never even heard of a soundbath. During that experience, I’ve felt a very strong calling towards weaving my musicianship into the presence of community and higher consciousness. After that soundbath, I just knew that I had to participate in this modality of sound. I started focusing less energy and attention into my cover band project and focused more on the learning and understanding how vibrational community experiences can elevate and heal everybody involved in that experience. I can feel authentic in my expression and share all of the knowledge and training that I have gained an experienced through my sound healing education. Though I still love to sing cover songs, it has taken a backseat for me professionally.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a classically trained vocalist and sound healing practitioner who leads Sound Bath meditations and workshops. A Sound Bath is not a musical performance, but rather an immersive meditative experience. Using my voice and many other instruments, including Himalayan bowls, crystal Bowls, gongs, tuning forks, chimes, and Shruti box , I create an environment which can enable the client to enter a theta brain wave state. I bring my experience and musicianship combined with my intuitive nature to help with relaxation and inner peace and clarity. I would never say that I can heal anybody, but rather guide them gently to a place where healing can occur . Just as no two people are the same no two sound healers are the same. This is such a deep calling for me. It’s a personal practice that I am passionate about and eager to continue to provide clients with a massage for their nervous system.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was the concepts of performing music. It’s something that’s very critical in my practice. Creating a Sound Bath has little to do with me or my ego/performer rather, I view myself as a channel in which the sound flows through me, almost unconsciously.. I have to open up and let go of all of my Connection to the judging self. From the very first time I ever played a Shruti box (which is an instrument that plays essentially a continual drone of a chord) that I can vocalize with, I immediately was able to let go of that self-consciousnes idea that I needed to perform.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
1000% yes. This is absolutely my calling. So much so that I really have a hard time calling it a profession.
