Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Holt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Since I was very young, I always marched to the beat of my own drum. So, when I was twenty-six, after working as a hairstylist in numerous salons, I decided it was time to branch out and be my own boss. With barely $1000 in the bank, I started looking for a space of my own. The average person would have probably assumed there was no way to make this happen. But, I found a small space in a historic building and signed a 10 year lease. I had no business name or business plan. But, I had a strong desire to make it work and new that I just needed to take continuous action. I was able to get a small loan of $3000 from a friend and was up and running in a month. Within 5 years, I was able to scale the business to six figures.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After working as a hairstylist for 23 years, I pivoted my focus to lifestyle coaching. After experiencing heartbreak, I had found healing and clarity through adopting a fitness routine. I was surprised by my transformation because I realized that it was not just physical. It was mental as well. So, I decided that I wanted to help others experience this as well. . I found that the most gratification I experienced was in having an innate skill and desire to facilitate people achieve their highest potential in life and love.
I became a certified personal trainer and wellness coach and began helping others create their own transformations.
While facilitating a retreat, I ended up meeting my husband. Through marriage, I learned how much more I could grow relationally, and it changed my life. I ended up going back to graduate school to obtain my masters degree in counseling with an emphasis in life coaching. It has been such a blessing to work with all of my clients online to facilitate transformation in life and love.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up, I never had a desire to be married. I was an independent women who “didn’t need a man.” I prided myself on my strength. When I met my husband, he showed me the beauty in vulnerability and how vulnerability could be strength. I learned that the very thing that I had avoided for many years, deep connection, was the very thing that helped me to grow most in my life. My own journey through personal and relational growth has helped me be a better coach to my clients.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
My post graduate training has been a huge contribution to my work with clients. But, more helpful than my training and knowledge has been my intuition. I have always known that I had a special gift to be empathetic and understanding to those who enter my world. When working with clients, I use a combination of training, knowledge, and intuition to inform how I approach the needs of each client.
