We recently connected with Lisa Foster and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
As a pediatric physical therapist during the pandemic’s peak, I had the privilege of working with parents and their little ones every day. It was heart-wrenching to see them isolated and relying on our sessions as their only form of social interaction. As a mother, I understand the value of having a support system during the parenting journey. My mom friends were my lifeline, and I wanted to provide that same connection for other moms. That’s why I launched the Real Life Momz podcast with the goal of connecting and empowering mothers. What started as a resource for parenting has now become a platform for inspiring and equipping moms to live their best lives. Our mission is to reach moms who may feel stuck or lost and help them rediscover their passions and confidence to pursue their dreams.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Initially, the thought of starting a podcast never crossed my mind. I had only listened to a few podcasts and the technical aspects of running one seemed beyond my abilities. However, my passion for creating a supportive resource for parents was something I held dear to my heart. Despite my reservations, I immersed myself in the world of podcasting, utilizing various platforms and connecting with like-minded individuals who shared my vision. Through extensive research and learning, I finally found the means to launch my mission. It wasn’t without its challenges, particularly with technical issues, but I am not one to back down. I took each obstacle one step at a time, determined to achieve my goal. With the unwavering support of my mom community, who were my first guests on the show, my podcast has now attracted guests from all corners of the globe, with a waitlist for interviews stretching three months ahead. From a simple idea, a powerful platform has emerged, inspiring mothers and equipping them with the necessary tools to craft a fulfilling life. Through intimate conversations, our podcast dives into topics ranging from conquering self-doubt to living a purpose-driven life. We offer valuable resources, such as time management techniques and strategies for regulating your nervous system, to help you maintain inner peace. Additionally, we have upcoming workshops that focus on the simple yet effective practice of journaling for self-care. Our brand is rooted in promoting positivity and providing inspiration, and through this platform, we are able to share this message with mothers all around the globe.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My primary goal for the podcast is to support moms who feel stuck or afraid to step out of their comfort zone. I want to reach out to those who have lost their sense of self and forgotten their passions and hobbies, as they have been focused on caring for others for so long. Little did I know, I was also that mom. When asked about my interests, I could only think of my family and career. I had lost my identity. As I interviewed countless moms who were in the same situation, I not only helped my listeners but also myself. These moms found themselves and had a mission to help others do the same. If you seek inspiration and the confidence to take the next step toward your dreams, the Real Life Momz podcast is the perfect place to start
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is to let go of the idea that everything must be perfectly planned and executed to achieve success. The truth is that striving for perfection only holds us back and prevents us from taking action. Instead of focusing on perfection, we should take the first step and then the next, trusting that the rest will fall into place. Plans are helpful, but they rarely go exactly as we envision. It’s important to be adaptable and open to change, as unexpected challenges and opportunities will always arise. Rather than a strict plan, I prefer a mission and a general outline, allowing room for spontaneity and growth. After all, success is not a linear path. It’s the unexpected twists and turns that make it genuinely fulfilling.
