We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Erbacher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have been making jewelry for a very long time. I always had a full time career and did the jewelry in the side. Just within the last year did I decide to go full time. It’s difficult and could not do it without the support of my husband. But, I’m hopeful and my husband believes in me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My brand is RUBYBLU. It is a Bohemian Rebel brand. The designs are very much both sides of my personality. I grew up in the country and I’m very much an earthy type. I love flowers, growing my food, being barefoot, the outdoors & I just refurbished an entire vintage trailer by myself. On the other hand, I am also inspired by sports, music and the arts. I played soccer in college and currently teach indoor cycling. So, the Tom boy Rebel side is always a part of the collection. I think it’s a good balance. Lately, I offer permanent jewelry. It’s a popular trend in jewelry and I am able to do it anywhere. It’s amazing!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The struggle for resilience is everyday. I’m constantly doing research and trying new things to keep up in this niche. Always trying to do things differently to set myself apart. For example, I re-built the trailer for my mobile business because I didn’t want to be in a white tent at Art shows. You just keep going. Your skin gets pretty thick pretty fast.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Last year I had to pivot from my full time career because I almost lost my mom to COVID complications. I walked away from my career to take care of her. The bright side I was able to open a successful pop up shop while taking care of my mom back home. That is what made me decide to do this full time.
