We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Coons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
I have had the opportunity to work at various restaurants throughout my career, where I gained experience in different roles including waitress, bartender, dishwasher, janitor, and cook. Each position has provided me with unique insights into the restaurant industry and enhanced my skills in diverse areas.
I gained an appreciation for the behind-the-scenes operations of a restaurant. I learned the importance of maintaining a clean and organized workspace, efficiently handling dirty dishes, and ensuring the kitchen kept up with the demands of a busy establishment. This role taught me the value of teamwork and effective time management.
Working as a cook allowed me to explore my passion for food and culinary arts. I gained experience in preparing various dishes, following recipes meticulously, and ensuring the quality and presentation of the meals served. This position fostered my creativity and honed my cooking techniques to deliver appetizing and flavorful dishes to customers.
Overall, my diverse experiences working in different roles within the restaurant industry have shaped me into a well-rounded professional. I have acquired crucial skills in customer service, communication, problem-solving, time management, and teamwork, all of which have been invaluable in my career journey.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Staying connected with my Facebook followers is essential for maintaining a constant flow of communication and engagement. Through social media platforms like Facebook, I can keep my followers informed about any updates, new products or services, promotions, or events. This direct line of communication allows me to cater to their needs, answer their queries, and address any concerns promptly.
My advice is to utilize all free platforms. The beauty of interacting with my followers on Facebook is that it doesn’t require any monetary investment. It is a cost-effective way to connect and engage with customers, unlike traditional advertising methods. Social media offers a variety of free tools and features that help me enhance my brand exposure, reach a wider audience, and ultimately drive business growth.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Life is full of surprises, and sometimes those surprises come in the form of unexpected career shifts. As someone who previously worked nine to five at a familiar and structured life insurance company, I found myself venturing into the food industry where uncertainties replaced predictability. This transition threw my life into a whirlwind, transforming my routine and challenging my ability to adapt to the unfamiliarity of not knowing when I would finally head home for the day.
Amidst the unpredictability of the food industry, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of finding balance. While the long hours often test my limits, I have learned to prioritize self-care and establish routines within the chaos. Whether it’s reserving time for hobbies, maintaining personal relationships, or simply ensuring I get enough rest, these measures have proven vital in maintaining my well-being and passion for the job.
