We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa Benza & Kelly Scullino a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa Benza & thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Sorted Home was founded by Kelly Scullino and Lisa Benza in 2022. Best friends for ten years, they shared a mutual love of home design and organization. They also found their conversations centering around the demands of parenthood, the paradox of working, raising kids and somehow maintaining an organized home that serves their families and, most powerfully, the difficulty of asking for help. The shame of not being able to keep up with the demands of life and, as a result, having spaces reflect this overwhelm, they found, is real.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Lisa spent twenty years in corporate advertising but dreamed of being a business owner, creating and designing functional spaces. She worked with friends and family providing design and organization services to hone her experience.
Kelly’s background in retail purchasing and styling led her a build a personal styling business, helping clients in their homes organize their closets and maximize their wardrobe using the clothing they already owned.
By melding their creative backgrounds and their obsession with organized spaces, they worked to create a service that provides so much more than organization but true support. Their goal was to empower their clients to take back control of their homes one space at a time.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
While working in their community in Silicon Valley, Kelly and Lisa became acutely aware of an issue facing the realtors in their network while selling their clients’ homes: the burden and overwhelm of their clients’ belongings being a barrier to quickly and easily get homes ready for the market. They started to understand that, shockingly, in the business of selling homes, no one was talking about what to do with everything inside the homes when preparing for sale, especially for clients who spent a lifetime at their current address. Lisa and Kelly were surprised to learn that many realtors were often called upon to use their evenings and weekends to help clients declutter and purge their clients spaces in order to successfully list.
They quickly understood that there was an opportunity to partner with realtors and their clients to declutter and streamline spaces while preparing clients for their upcoming move. As a result, Sorted Home expanded its business to provide full pack up, move and move-in services to help clients in their moving journey from beginning to end.
Sorted Home’s ability to support the real estate community to reduce time to make homes market- ready, in addition to reducing clients’ stress during an already incredibly taxing time helped dramatically increase growth in this area of the market.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Founded with the belief that home organization is more than an unattainable “after,” Kelly and Lisa built their business around their client relationships. This meant listening, slowing down to understand and meet their clients exactly where there are. Their focus is consistently striving to understand individual client’s relationship with their belongings, how to remove the overwhelm in a way that feels safe as well as openly and thoroughly listening to their clients’ goals. Their focus continues to be creating long term relationships with clients that far surpasses individual projects.
By creating a reputation of being effective and compassionate business owners who truly care about their clients, their ability to expand their business through referrals became an incredible source of growth for Sorted Home.
