We recently connected with Lipstick Stains and have shared our conversation below.
Lipstick, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Lipstick Stains formed in 2018 and gained momentum playing out of town and within the Memphis music scene all throughout 2019. We started progressing forward within our careers musically in 2020 and had many tours lined up to further reach our potential. Just like everyone in the world, we were stopped dead in our tracks as the pandemic came. We used that fuel and those pent-up feelings, and we went into the studio and recorded our record Controlled Chaos. We kept holding off on a release until we felt it was safe to play live – we wanted to hit the ground running once it was put out in the world. Even though we waited until May 2021 to share it with everyone, the world was still a strange place and it was such a difficult nudge to get back to where we were in the beginning of 2020. We finally started feeling like we could get the wheels turning on where we want to be, and we recently had Michael join us on drums and Zak on bass. We are thrilled to have them on our team as we make steps towards our ultimate goal: to play as many cities and scenes as possible,

Lipstick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The biggest way we’ve seen and know from personal experience on how to create a self-sustaining and thriving music scene, is by supporting live music and going out to shows, buying merch, snapping photos, social media likes/follows/shares, and enjoying good times together.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Music is something that almost every person on this planet enjoys. It’s something that can truly create a family that you never knew you needed. Being able to touch people with your music and bring people together with what you’ve created is hands-down the most rewarding part about being a band.
