We recently connected with Lionel Deluy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lionel , thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I always dream since I can remember to be a photographer. I was born in a small town in the south of France without any access to a photographer or someone who could help me to try to start my career.. at the times the 80 we didn’t have any iPhone or Internet my only way to be connected to my dream was to buy a magazine every month. French Photo magazine was all my inspiration. I remember every single photo shoots in this magazine. I did collect them and still have them today. For start my dream and career I moved to Paris. At the time it was a big deal to cross all France. I took a few jobs to survive and slowly try to connect with Pro in the business. took me a few years. before being accepted in the studio as an intern. Lost a lot of time on the process to start my carrier.. At the time was only way to start on the business before Internet, Instagram, and all of this I was 29 year olds also assistant were really younger than me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born in France moved to Los Angeles in 1996 to presume my dream. I got inside see industry we just perseveres. I think he’s way more easy right now with some Instagram and all the social media to connect yourself and to start your business.. I move there in the 90” everything was way different and difficult. it was a really slow process..
If you want to be in a Photographer, just try to get some advice to someone with more experience than you. Doesn’t hurt to ask..
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
32 years of age, I decide to move from Paris who was just starting my career as a Photographer. I was really scared, but full of enthusiasm and dream. I know the only way to mane it for me was to move to the US since I can remember all my dream was to be a photographer and live in Venice Beach California. It took time a lot of work, but I make it.
I believe if you really really want something you can do it and you can make it. Dream are made for a reason.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When I arrive in Los Angeles in the early 90” English was really bad and broken. The times are only way for me to stop my business is to be everywhere every day. I used to call and visit daily every song, every client and everyone what I knew what we are going to be a + in my business. The only way to make it it’s work and perseverance and of course, to do a great job every single day no exception.
