Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Linh Le. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Linh , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I started out teaching myself. I would buy grocery store flowers and experiment with different types of flowers and arrangements to develop my skills. Then I started following florists on Instagram and learned through their tips and techniques. I also invested in floral education by purchasing online courses and practicing while watching those videos.
Knowing what I know now, I would have taken imitative to reach out to local florists to freelance for them. The best and fastest way to to learn, for me, is being hands on and watching someone. So, I believe I would have learned valuable lessons freelancing for other florists.
Floristry is a form of art, and creativity is essential when it comes to designing unique and attractive floral arrangements. I think having a deep understanding of different flowers, their growing seasons, and how they interact with each other will help create arrangements that are aesthetically pleasing.
I started my business amid the pandemic, and the biggest obstacle and most challenging aspect was sourcing flowers. The floral industry, like many other industries, experienced supply chain issues during Covid-19. In addition, flowers and supplies can be costly, which can be a barrier to learning more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Linh, and I am the owner and lead designer of La Petite Fleur (LPF). I started my business in October of 2020 when the world was at a standstill. I have always known I wanted to do something creative, and I discovered that flower was my medium. I’m still a one woman team, and I also have a full time corporate job. All the proposals, sourcing flowers/supplies, and the planning is all me. But I could not do what I do and execute on the day of without all of my amazing freelancers. I have loved the community I’ve found through this industry. We truly do cheer each other on.
LPF provides floral designs that enhance the overall aesthetic of the event. I think design style, quality of work, and being authentic to your craft are what will set you apart from others. In this industry, especially on social media, we tend to compare ourselves a lot to others and that can lead to imposter syndrome. I believe if you stay true to yourself within your design, you will attract the clients that values your work.
The thing I’m most proud of is actually starting this business. We often have all these dreams and things we want to do, and we will talk ourselves out of it with one reason or another. I’m in awe each year of how much this business has grown and where it has taken me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think going above and beyond for each client. I’m very hard on myself and the work I put out. I never want to do the minimum of what is asked of me, probably because I’m a little bit of a perfectionist. I just believe my work is a representation of me, and if I don’t like what I made, it’s going to translate that to the clients.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing the joy it brings to clients. Flowers have the power to brighten someone’s day and evoke positive emotions, and the ability to create that beauty and share it with others. I love making special moments even more memorable.
