We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Linette Garcia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Linette below.
Linette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I realized I wanted to pursue a career in content creation when I consistently felt a positive instinct to keep creating. Experiencing joy as my creative ideas flowed, similar to the satisfaction I found in playing the guitar during both highs and lows, solidified my passion for content creation. That moment made me think, ‘I want to continue this journey and make it my career!
Linette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I’m Linette Garcia, also known as @Linettestorybook on my social media platforms. I specialize in creating comedy skits, focusing on relatable events in a Hispanic household. I transform into various characters like the abuela, mom, and daughter.
What kept me pushing in content creation was the fulfillment of hearing my audience say, ‘Thank you, I needed this laugh.’ Despite life’s challenges, I love that my purpose is to bring smiles and joy into people’s lives.
My proudest achievement is turning my passion into a career through consistent effort. Despite skeptics among family and friends, who doubted my choice to dress up and create content, I persevered. Even when faced with remarks like ‘Where’s the money?’ during my growth, I stayed true to my vision. This year, I had a breakthrough and partnered with Zappos, Amazon, Invisalign, Walmart, and Pepto Bismol.
Ignoring the noise and staying consistent led me to where I am today. I’m proud to have remained faithful to my vision.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Before creating content, I had two businesses: I was a party entertainer for children’s parties, and I also gave guitar lessons. As I started to dabble in creating content, I had to make a decision to completely stop my first two businesses to focus on the vision of my new brand, @Linettestorybook. The saying that stood out to me was “Jack of all trades but a master of none.” I didn’t want to go down that route of having so many things going on without mastering any of them. That’s when I pivoted and decided to take a “risk” by going all-in on my media. It was the best decision I ever made!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The way I started was by posting on Instagram in 2019. I didn’t have many followers, just my personal friends and family. Despite this, my focus was on entertaining them. I believed that if I remained consistent with them, I would eventually be noticed by a viral account. After being consistent, posting 1-2 videos a week for a couple of months, I was featured by a local Miami account called @Lifestyle_Miami. This account is significant in Miami, sharing relatable content about the city. That moment marked the first time I went viral, and I’ll never forget the warmth it brought to my heart. However, I told myself I couldn’t stop there—I had to keep going and pushing, so I stayed consistent.
For those just starting up, I recommend:
1. Be surrounded by people that will support you 100% in your vision: It’s crucial to carefully choose who is in your circle, especially when starting. The beginning is tough as you try to find your footing on the platform. Surround yourself with people who will support and advise you. Networking at social media events, like VidCon, personally changed my life. I met many like-minded content creators and learned valuable lessons from them.
Build a Niche: Finding your niche might come easily or take time. Many creators experiment with various content, and sometimes one thing resonates more, leading them to stick with it. However, you don’t have to limit yourself to one thing. Keep creating content in multiple niches you’re passionate about—it adds variety to your page.
Consistency: Consistency often surpasses talent. Even if someone has more talent, being consistent with posting can lead to more exposure. Stay focused on your vision and passion, and you’ll see results.
Have fun: If you’re not enjoying the journey, it’ll be challenging to build a platform. Focus on why you’re doing it, what brings you joy, and how your passion can benefit others in your community.
