We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey Skipworth recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lindsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
One of my very first clients (who I still work with 5 years later) has come a long way in her business. Every year, her creative studio has continued to grow in size and project management and internal systems were always a roadblock to her continued growth. When I first began working in the Operations side of her business, it was a minefield of missing deadlines and lost documents. Through systemizing her project process, building that into all of her systems to help them work seamlessly, and managing that system day-to-day, we’ve been able to grow her monthly project capacity by 250%, increase profits by 200+%, grow our team of 5 to 12 team members, and break into new markets that we hadn’t dreamed possible all within a 2-year timeframe. She is now able to focus on business development aspects of the business and know that the backend of her business is managed and running smoothly under me – including team management, HR, hiring, project management, client communication/customer experience, data/reporting, and so much more.

Lindsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey there! I’m Lindsey Skipworth, a Fractional COO/DOO (Director of Operations) and OBM (Online Business Manager). I am a nerd about all things Operations and aspire to be your business’s best friend. I have 11+ years of experience working in Operations are Creative Digital Marketing Agencies around the US. I have 5 years of experience with corporate companies and many years of experience with start-ups companies lead by solopreneurs or teams of 10+.
I come into a business as their Director of Operations – meaning I handle everything under the umbrellas of project management, team management, system management, and HR. This includes everything from hiring, managing your team onboarding process, managing projects, client communication, customer experience/service, building your CRM, managing your SOP library, and so much more. I have three amazing team members that enhance how I’m able to serve my clients and they are the reason that we’re able to make such an impact for our clients.
With my background in corporate, I’ve seen how these large corporations can reduce workers to a number in a larger machine. I wanted to work with smaller businesses, where profits directly impact families and hard work really does result in a better outcome for everyone. It’s my passion to make sure that each entrepreneur is happier, healthier, and more successful in their eyes after we’ve started working together.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started my business in 2019, I quickly realized that I was doing the wrong thing. Originally, I offered branding and web design services as I seemed to enjoy it and I had done that for years. I quickly noticed that I absolutely hated it – I just didn’t know how to implement creative feedback and make clients happy. After three months of trying it full-time, I went back to corporate and restructured how I wanted to run a “side hustle”. I structured it completely around what I knew best – operations in an agency, though I didn’t know if there was even a market for that online.
Spoiler alert: there was. After two years of steadily growing my “side hustle”, it eclipsed my corporate salary and I left to pursue it full-time. If not for trusting my gut and restructuring my business, I would have stayed in corporate and likely remained unhappy in that position!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, I tried my absolute hardest to always be authentic and genuine. My personality on social media is what you get when you work with me. I’m not a buttoned-up corporate type – I cuss, I laugh a little too loud, and I love to have fun with my clients. We work hard, but we know how to relax too. Sometimes in the online space, you put out polarizing content online and that has never aligned with my brand or my personality. If I need to put someone down to make something viral, I’m not doing it. This industry and the online space is hard enough without bullies around every corner.
