We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsey Schober. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsey below.
Lindsey, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I wasn’t happy in my 9-5 job and I knew that something needed to change. In March of 2021, I quit my 9-5 job to take a part-time job at Whole Foods until I had enough clients to fly solo. I had a family reunion/vacation coming up in July and I hadn’t seen most of these relatives in almost 20 years. A lot of my co-workes were not getting time requests granted so I needed to make a decision. Would I fly solo without enough clients or miss yet another opportunity to see family? I took a deep breathe and put in my two weeks notice.
I shouldn’t have been able to relax on vacation but I did. I had a wonderful time reconnecting with family and it was just what my mind and soul needed. It rekindled the motivation I needed to hit the ground running once I got back home. And I did. I signed a new client a couple weeks later.
It was scary leaving that steady paycheck and taking a leap of faith. But I’m so glad I did.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from Kansas State University. Social Media Management was a small part of my 9-5 job. One day, corporate called and told me they hired someone to manage all of their locations so that was taken off my plate. Designing posts, stories and reels was my creative outlet. And suddenly, I didn’t have it anymore.
One of my friends had recently started her own business and I wanted to learn more about how she did it. I started taking a course, learned everything I could about starting my own business and got my LLC. When I first started, I offered social media management to small businesses. In Early 2022, I began working with my first nonprofit client. I saw what they did for their community, the ones they serve and the impact they had on our city. They were incredible and got me thinking. Earlier this year, I announced that I will be changing my business to work primarily with nonprofits. And it has been SO AMAZING!
Since all nonprofits are different, I customize my services based on what they need, their budget and their goals. I offer monthly retainer services, training packages and even a la carte options such as social media audits.
Those who work in the nonprofit sector often wear MANY hats and though they know how important social media is, it often falls to the wayside. That’s where I come in. I will learn your brand, your voice and advocate for those you serve and your mission, one post at a time.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly, most of my clients have been referral based. Followed by networking events.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
My clients know that I watch our toddler during the day so flexibility is key. Most of my communication is by email, with weekly Zoom calls and occasional texts. I will also help capture content at events, ect as needed.
I’m 110% behind the clients I work with. I love their mission, their dreams and I enjoy doing my part to help achieve them.
