We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsey Richardson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsey below.
Hi Lindsey , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I’ve always been a creative, even since a child- but into a full blown career it took time and a lot of blood sweat and tears of inner work to get myself comfortable with the highs and lows that this career can have
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been doing some type of art since those are my first memories of life. I got my first pottery wheel when I was 16 (many moons ago now) Life got bumpy for me and I stepped away from art for 10 years to focus on raising my children.
I finally decided to focus back on myself after my children got older, and get back into what I love. Art.
My mother actually played a huge role getting me into doing jewelry, as she pushed me into doing it.
While that relationship has grown apart, I’m forever thankful that she did, as who knows what I would be doing now.
Astralchemy, was born so I could reconnect with myself.
My jewelry is for the bold, people that aren’t scared to wear things that pieces are making statements.
With my electroforming, I’m taking organic materials and giving them life again.
Death is just a chapter closing, and another door opening. As ALOT of materials are of ethically sourced bugs/animal bones and fungi. I know my jewelry isn’t for everyone- but as I person I’m not either.
I travel the country selling my artwork, and that in itself takes ALOT of work people don’t see. A lot of logistics, ALOT sweat and blood and tears are shed, ALOT of time alway from family. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world, as it’s one of the most amazing experiences to be able to meet so many amazing people that love my work around the country.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I actually don’t share this part of my story often. But I was homeless, and a drug addicted before I had children. It was the reason I stopped doing art, and how I got so disconnected from myself. So no matter where you are on your journey of life- if your down- please remember it can get better.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To be authentic. To be able to be myself
