We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsey Overstreet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsey below.
Alright, Lindsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Moonlit Productions is a family owned and operated music venue that was first started in August 2024 by myself (Lindsey Overstreet) and Dell Simms. It is a creative space that is accessible to all ages and welcomes all genres. Although similar venues exist in Tulsa, It is the first of its kind in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Dell had a collection of audio and lighting equipment in storage that he had been collecting for many years. We first had the idea to set the equipment up as a stage for bands to use for rehearsal space, photo shoots, music videos, etc., as Dell had done previously at a different location with his brother who had passed away a few years prior. He mostly operated the sound, and his brother mostly operated the lights.
After we found the space, I went to work on learning how to operate the lights. It took me a few months and a lot of YouTube videos, but I ended up teaching myself all about DMX lighting and how to program/operate the lights to music.
The first space that we were in was about half the size of the space that we are in now. We were there for a few months, but we found it difficult to obtain clients. We wanted to do live events, but the space was just too small for what we wanted to do. In May 2025, we moved a few doors down to a space that was two times the size of our previous space. Mid May was our grand reopening and ever since then, we have had live music almost every Friday and Saturday evenings with occasional weekdays as well.
Being musicians ourselves, we had some connections to local bands already. I took an initiative to focus on our social media outreach, and we quickly obtained a decent size following from the local Tulsa area music scene and music lovers. I had no experience in this previously, so all of it was basically trial and error. I had to learn a lot about event planning, building bills that people want to come out and watch, social media, and more. Additionally, we have trained many people on how to operate lights and run live sound. We couldn’t have done this without the help of our family and volunteers.

Lindsey , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dell and I are both musicians. His primary instrument is guitar, and my primary instruments are bass guitar and keys. We have both been in multiple different projects.
Dell has many decades of experience running live sound. I have almost a decade of producing music in a studio setting.
We are grateful to be able to provide a space that supports the local music scene. It is always rewarding to put on a show that looks and sounds good for both local and touring artists. The artists are very appreciative of this. We hope to continue doing this for as long as we possibly can.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Dell is actually my father-in-law. My partner and I have been together for over 8 years, and I have know him for just as long. We have always bonded over our shared interest in music.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Learning how to operate DMX lighting took several months and many late nights at Moonlit. This was prior to use moving into the larger space. I would work my day job (as I still do) and head over to Moonlit afterwards to continue my programming/busking skills. I use the program QLC+ primary and have built my console to be exactly how I like it as well as user friendly – as I’ve also trained several people on how to program/run lights in QLC+ as well. Being a lighting designer is a very creative art form. Busking (basically running lights to a live show that you don’t know the songs to) is very fun and rewarding.
