We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey Macdonald recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I feel like moving to Colorado was a huge risk I had to take to better my life. I was very apprehensive initially coming out here. I had lived in the panhandle of Florida for 21 years and knew that area like the back of my hand. I wanted to be with my family which was propelling me of course but I was very scared of going to a new place where I didn’t know anyone.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi I am Lindsey MacDonald and I am so grateful to be here! A little of my background I like to share is about the near fatal car accident I survived right out of high school. I had a traumatic brain surgery injury from the wreck amongst other injuries. After the incident I gained about 100 lbs and started abusing alcohol. It was a really hard place to pull myself out of. Luckily my family really pushed me to move out to Colorado about 3 years ago so we could all be closer and something truly incredibly happened! I was able to find myself again. I had lost about half of the weight before my move but was able to get the other 50 lbs off by just quitting drinking. In March I will have 2 years sober and my life gets better each and every day.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After my wreck and weight gain I truly felt like I had a whole new avatar of a life I was given to work with. I cannot remember how many times I felt like giving up on life. I screamed and argued with God on why He was keeping me alive! It took me 10 years to get out of that mindset, I remember I even had a therapist who told me He was surprised I was still alive. I never thought I would have the life I have now. I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been! You have to take it one day at a time and eventually the miracle will happen.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My driving mission is to inspire others to fight for a better life. Our mind is so powerful and I think our society is just beginning to really see the importance of mental health. Our mental health correlates to our physical health and vice versa. You really cannot have one piece of the puzzle without the other, they work harmoniously.
