We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey Jacobson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lindsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Since I can remember I’ve been drawn to authenticity and creativity. Everything I do must be a representation of who I am, and therefore everything must be incredibly unique. When I shop or get ready for the day I don’t have something specific in mind, I let styles call to me and how I feel that specific day. I’ve been wearing my own original creations since my school days and have always been told “you should sell that!” But it never felt like “my why” if you will. Now in my mid-30’s, I spend my days with my 4 best friends all under the age of 10. My kids have been an incredible and unending source of creative inspiration, but beyond that have helped me grow into my creativity and really build confidence….no matter how crazy.
Even more specifically, I found myself incredibly inspired by my personalized jewelry adorned with names and pictures of my family. I found myself instinctively praying for them as I would touch and see my jewelry throughout each day. And then I thought what if we adorned ourselves with the fruits of the spirit (love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness self-control)….would we reach for it, pray for it, pick it?? Each of my pieces is here to remind you to choose fruit first-steadfastly, unabashedly, boldly, and maybe even a little wildly….authentically and creatively too!!
My fruitful aspirations have grown to include hair accessories, repurposed vintage items, and custom creations to truly make each piece one of one, uniquely for you. Specifically for you!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I really want my pieces to be and extension and reflection of the people wearing them. I want to encourage people to really stretch themselves and their style, and to try new and fun things because life is way too short to be boring!! Be a doer!!
I had all 4 of my children in less than 2.5 years and each of my #calmlikeabomb #beautifuldisaster children has taught me something really specific in each season. So classically, at my busiest I decided to launch a business. Because are we really ever “ready” to start something new??!!
I love making custom pieces for my customers based on pictures or drawings or even ideas from something really personal to them. I also really enjoy taking something vintage, with an already awesome story, and re-loving and repurposing it to start a whole new chapter!
My biggest desire is that people would come to my shop and not worry about what matches or what’s treading or when they’ll wear something or what they’ll wear it with…. but rather just let themselves be led and drawn to what’s calling them and simply go for it. Do something new, perceive it!!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Putting your heart out there is a vulnerable thing. It takes practice and that means you actually have to do it. Don’t hoard your creations. You build your tough skin and keep your confidence when you face people who don’t like it or don’t get it. Sign up for the market, post the listing, talk about your inspirations. Simply, but not necessarily easily. Be.a.doer. And then continue to do it anyway and again . You have to want it more days then you don’t.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I think daily my priorities pivot based on the needs of my family. Sometimes that means a sick day or two, sometimes it turns into vacation mode, sometimes that means creativity becomes a family affair, and sometimes I just plain old have to wait. I’ve learned that creativity can’t be scheduled and so I must adjust and get creative within my creativity. Holding my plans loosely has kept the peace and alleviated burn out. And allowed the freedom owning a business is supposed to provide.
