We recently connected with Lindsey Fore and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a passion for makeup from a very young age. Instead of going to cosmetology school I went to college. Earned a business degree and set off for corporate America. Let’s just say corporate America was not for me. My now husband, pushed me to start my own makeup business because he knew that made me the happiest. It was definitely scary because I had no idea where to begin. Wasn’t even sure what type of industry I wanted to be in when it came to makeup. I’m originally not from Maryland, so I had to start doing research, network and figure out what my clientele was going to be. In the meantime, I was doing makeup for free, advertising I was doing makeup while bartending on the side. Then I decided to work for a local bridal beauty company and that’s when I fell in love with bridal makeup. Decided I am going to learn the industry while building my own business. Fast Forward 9 years later, and I now have my own bridal beauty team (Unveiled Bridal Beauty Co.). I’m very blessed and worked very hard. So grateful for my community, the people I’ve met, that I have supported me and continue to support me. I’m still doing solo projects on my own, but bridal beauty will always have a special place in my heart. For anyone scared to take the leap and start something on their own, just do it! With hard work and dedication your dreams will become reality. If you told that 9 year old little girl She would own her own beauty business one day, she would have never have believed it. Reach for the stars, always!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Myself personally offers makeup services for brides, special occasions, photoshoots and celebrities. For my small bridal business, I am truly blessed with a small team of girls who are just as passionate as I am. We love making brides feel their absolute day on of the most special days of their lives. Little girls dream of their wedding and when we get to make that dream a reality when they become brides is truly an amazing feeling. We pride ourselves staying up with trends, constantly evolving, communication and being your personal hype team. We are you true girls-girls and we love anything beauty. We hope to be part of the magic when it comes to your special day or any occasion.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’ve learned from this industry especially with social media is do not compare yourself to anyone else. Social media doesn’t make you the person you are. Yes, it’s a good way to showcase your work, but not everyone books just for the work. They book for the experience and who you are as a person. I used to be so hard on myself because I was always comparing myself to everyone else, and at the end of the day I’m not everyone else. Constantly asking myself why are they consistently busy? Why are they growing so easily? Why do they have more followers? What am I doing wrong? Because in my mind I was doing everything right instead of being my true self. Once I let go of those bad habits things changed for me. I love people and working in this industry has made me completely happy. It’s so fun working with different personalities especially in a creative industry like mine. Don’t be afraid to ask for help because those that want to help you will. Just remember not everyone is going to be nice or support you, but you will find a whole community that will. Trust me I’m living proof and I couldn’t be happier. You just have to learn to let things go that are out of your control. Focus on you and your business because that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
I can share a time I didn’t put a bridal preview in my calendar, and got a text from a bride asking where I was. I was almost an hour away! I was mortified and wasn’t sure how I let that happened. Thought it through and remember I’m human and make mistakes. Explained to the bride and she was completely understanding. We still were able to complete the trial that day.
