We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsey Champagne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Everyone needs a smile to brighten their day, and if we can provide even just one smile to a person who really needs it- then that’s what our mission is.
Lindsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an active and driven individual who thrives on helping people feel better about themselves. I started a business called 901goats, offering baby goat snuggles, goat yoga, parties & more. Providing animal therapy, is just one way that I can help bring a smile to someone’s life, creating lasting memories for those who come in contact with my goats. I’m always amazed at the many ways I can be creative and include goats in different ways, providing surprise visits and smiles to many.
I had been breeding goats and working the goat ranch for many years, but 901goats was a covid started business. My husband and I offered baby goat snuggles to those who needed less stress in their day to day lives. People were able to come and hold our baby goats and actually forget for a moment about the things that weighed heavy on their minds. Many who had lost loved ones or lost a job, were able to genuinely smile and relax while visiting with our goats.
As covid restrictions lifted, our business grew. Offering goat yoga, parties and more. We travel the Memphis area providing smiles to all who see the little goats.
We hope to continue to grow in many directions, including offering goat cheese and artisan style goat milk soaps to our community.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Cute goats on social media always make an easy post, but being innovative with posts and learning the audience has been a challenge.
Finding the right angles, lighting and the perfect reel music is always challenging, but when you get the right mix- it’s magic!
It’s been a struggle to keep up with the different social platforms and trying to keep posts different for other pages. I’ve learned to watch for what is popular, what gets the most shares, the most views and what hashtags are popular that day.
Thankfully my business has thrived through social media posts and sharing. As people fall in love with 901goats, they tag us & share on social media. This has been the most rewarding thing and has helped our business to continue to grow.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have enjoyed the goat ranch life. We are happy to be able to grow a business together and share similar life goals and business goals.
We both work the goat ranch, but he loves to be the feeder, while I love to be the caregiver. He’s the “Mr Fix It” and I’m the “We will figure it out”. He’s the accountant and I’m the entrepreneur.
