We recently connected with Lindsey Bonine and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Communication is one of the most important aspects of any real estate transaction. It always surprises me how many people overlook this simple yet crucial skill. Clear and consistent communication can make even the most challenging transactions run smoothly because both Realtors and their clients stay informed and aligned.
There’s nothing more frustrating than working with someone who ignores messages or calls—especially when deadlines are approaching. Even worse are those who disappear when a problem arises instead of addressing it head-on to find a solution.
That’s why it’s essential for buyers and sellers to choose an agent who not only keeps them informed but also communicates effectively with the other agent involved. When a client works with me or someone on my team, they can trust that we’ll maintain open, transparent communication every step of the way—with them and with the other side.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began my real estate journey in Minnesota in 2015 after my daughter, Avery, was born at just 25 weeks. At the time, I was a full-time hairstylist at an Aveda salon, but I felt it was the right moment to make a career change and work for myself. I had always loved exploring open houses with my mom and walking through new construction homes, so I decided to go to real estate school—and I haven’t looked back since!
For four years, I worked as a Realtor in Minnesota before relocating to Kansas City in 2019 for my husband’s job. I instantly fell in love with KC—the people here are so warm and welcoming! Shortly after moving, I got licensed in both Kansas and Missouri, in addition to my Minnesota license. Today, we live in Johnson County on the Kansas side, but I help clients buy and sell homes all across the metro.
In 2023, my husband, Tyler Bonine, joined me in real estate after getting his license. It has been such a rewarding experience working together and offering our clients the benefit of having both of us available. Whether it’s a home showing, an inspection, or anything in between, one of us is almost always there!
Then, in late 2024, Maggie Weiss joined our team after relocating from Texas with four years of experience. With a team of three, we can now serve our clients even better, ensuring someone is always available to meet their needs.
On the personal side, I’m now a proud mom of two! Our second daughter, Emerson, was born in 2021 at just 22 weeks and 6 days. She spent 7.5 months at Children’s Mercy in KC, and the care they provided will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m incredibly grateful for a career that gives me the flexibility to be present for my family while also supporting my clients.
To all our clients and friends—thank you for your trust, your business, and your referrals. Your support means the world to us, and we truly appreciate every opportunity to help you with your real estate needs!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, authenticity is everything. I never want to come across as a pushy salesperson—I’m not here to hound anyone for business. Instead, I focus on building genuine connections, where both the client and I feel like we’re the right fit for each other. Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest financial decisions in a person’s life, and trust is essential. My goal is to be someone they can rely on to guide them through the process with honesty and care.
I make it a priority to stay in touch without being overbearing, keeping clients informed so they feel confident when the time is right for them. It’s never just about a commission for me—it’s about making sure they have the best possible experience and outcome. The real reward is seeing the excitement on a buyer’s face at the closing table when they receive their keys. Being part of that moment is truly humbling, and it’s why I love what I do.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting in real estate requires a lot of resilience because getting your license doesn’t automatically mean you’ll start selling homes. How do you find your first buyer? Your first seller? Some new agents may have a deal lined up when they start, but for most, that’s not the case. I remember when I first started in 2015, my broker told me that many new agents take about a year to make their first sale!
Success in real estate comes down to drive. You are truly your own boss, and what you put into it determines what you get out of it. If you sit back and wait for opportunities to come to you, you may never sell anything. When I got started, I hustled. I sent out postcards to everyone I knew, letting them know about my new career. It costs nothing for friends and family to share your info! I hosted countless open houses to meet new buyers, sent out mailers, previewed homes to learn the market, worked in the office to connect with walk-ins, and did whatever I could to build momentum.
The reality is that real estate isn’t easy. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), 75% of agents fail within their first year, and 87% don’t make it past five years. Many get their license thinking it’s quick, easy money—but it takes commitment and hard work, especially in the first few years.
Now, I can’t believe I’m in my 10th year in real estate! Time has flown by, and I’m so grateful for all the clients I’ve had the privilege to work with—many of whom have become friends. I truly love what I do!
