We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsey Becker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My website MeantToBeLindseyB.com has been the most meaningful project I have ever worked on because it has become the catalyst to so many other things. It started out as a blog and I used it as an outlet to process my journey as a wheelchair user and cancer survivor. Then, I started sharing a list of 101 Things in 1,001 Days as one of my blogs because I thought it would be a good idea to help me shift my focus off of the stress of going through cancer and do something with that time. Then, through the list, it led me to my love of music, which is how my company Shine On Music City, LLC, and the website ShineOnMusicCity.com came about. From there, I was also crowned Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2018. Through the people I was meeting through that experience, I decided to start my YouTube channel, YouTube.com/MeantToBeLindseyB where I started sharing my personal experiences even more and started focusing on creating content that would help people in the disability community. From there, I realized I wanted to expand a little more into beauty because I don’t want my entire identity to just be wrapped up in being a wheelchair user. I realized along the way that I wanted to do more and put more out into the world. Along the way, I realized that I am very passionate about beauty, so I most recently created a website, MeantToBeBeautiful.com where I plan to show more of my artistic side but I plan to also keep it educational as well and focus on product reviews, techniques, and more. It all kind of has evolved naturally for more over the years and they’re all things I am very passionate about and proud to have created.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Because I have so many projects I have worked on over the years, it’s hard to pick one thing to focus on. If I had to pick one though, I would say that I would have to pick my YouTube channel. It was started out from purely recognizing the need to address concerns and solutions to everyday issues that many people with disabilities face during my time as Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2018. I am proud of it because I have seen so many messages over the years where people have told me that my videos have helped them in some way. What I want people to know about what I do is that I do is 100% from feeling in my heart that I need to. It’s the entire premise of my brand “Meant To Be Lindsey B”. I feel like I was MEANT TO BE on this earth to help people and I want to continue doing that in as many ways as I possibly can.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, it has been all about listening to feedback on how to make my content better and what my supporters feel I need to address and being willing to make changes and adapt in ways that benefit everyone. Whether it’s been making my websites more user-friendly or just taking suggestions on what type of video I should put out next. I listen and respond to every person that I possibly can because I have realized that without them, I cannot grow. It’s important to pour back into the community that supports you. I know my supporters appreciate that I always try to respond thoughtfully and that is what I feel will help keep me going.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
There is so much behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating content. From building a site and waiting to launch it until everything is fully functional, to editing videos and blogs, to learning how things like SEO work, and even things like creating captions for videos. There is so much work that most people don’t realize that goes on before a project or idea is even shown to the public. Be willing to do the work. It will make your content better in the long run and will ultimately make your content visible to more people more easily. You also need to truly believe in your own content first before you can expect anyone else to.
