Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsey Barber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
As a creative, your work is very personal. Whether you’re creating for yourself or a customer, the creator is responsible for bringing that vision to life. Because of this, it can be intimidating deciding to sell your art or even share it publicly.
My entire life I’ve created art but, until recently, I’ve never considered selling it. I just kind of kept it for myself as a personal collection. But through encouragement from my husband and loved ones, I gained the confidence to give it a try,
After building a presence online, a friend invited me to an event as a vendor. She was kind enough to waive the fees, and that was enough encouragement to get me on board. Luckily for me, my first event was amazing. Within the first hour I made my first sale and it felt so good.
There’s no better feeling than making a sale. Not because I’ve made money, but because someone has connected with something that I created. So much so that they are willing to spend their hard earned money on it.
It’s the best compliment an artist can receive and it’s what inspires me to keep creating.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a creator, my art expresses the two very different sides of my personality: Fun & Control. I’m the creator of Hippy Beads and a photographer.
Hippy Beads are indoor mood enhancers made to bring joy wherever they hang. As you can imagine, these represent the fun in my personality. They’re fully customizable polymer clay creations that I combine with macrame. The possibilities endless! I make keychains, ornaments, wall art, garland, and home decor.
LKPittman Photos represents the controlled side of me. My photos are precise and focus on capturing the best shot possible. My photography captures the beauty of the world around me. I specialize in nature, street, and landscape photography. I love playing with light and angles, trying to catch a different point of view.
Overall, creating is one of my favorite things to do. You know I’m having fun when I’m making a funky design with Hippy Beads or capturing the sunrise of my dreams with my photos.
Custom orders are ALWAYS welcome and some of my fave things to create. If you have an idea, just reach out!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Buy from artists before you hit the big box stores. If you can find a local artist you connect with, even better!
When you buy art directly from the artist, there’s a better chance you’ll find unique, one of a kind pieces. This can make purchasing art a more meaningful experience for the buyer.
When you buy local art, you are supporting the artists and the local arts community. It provides a means for artists to make a living from their passion, and it helps to keep the arts alive and thriving in your community.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Some of my art is created for me and some for others. But, it always feels so good seeing someone’s eyes light up when they see my art. It’s the best feeling in the world knowing someone has connected with something I made.
