Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Tyler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative. Art has been an intrinsic part of who I am for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my parents nurtured that passion in many ways, taking me to art galleries and art fairs, but also exposing me to musical theatre and movies that sparked my imagination. Whether it was standing in awe before a painting or being immersed in a theatrical world, these experiences instilled in me not just an appreciation for art, but a deep-seated understanding that this was where I belonged.
I pursued my passion academically, earning my degree from Central Michigan University, which provided me with a strong foundation in artistic principles. But while art was always present in my life, it wasn’t until the last two years that I fully committed to my artistry as a professional pursuit. That shift wasn’t just about creating—it was about showing up for myself as an artist, developing my unique style, and putting my work into the world with intention.
Since then, I’ve exhibited my work in galleries, taken creative risks, and explored various techniques to bring my artistic vision to life. My work often reflects my love for color, movement, and emotion, often drawing inspiration from Michigan’s landscapes. The spark has always been there, but now I nurture it through my dedication to my craft, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Lindsay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a fine artist specializing in fluid acrylics and traditional brushwork, creating original paintings, prints, and wearable art. My work is deeply inspired by movement, texture, and emotion, often incorporating nature, landscapes, and bold color palettes to evoke a sense of connection and storytelling.
While I frequently draw inspiration from Michigan’s natural beauty, my work extends beyond geographic influence—I focus on capturing the feeling and energy of a scene rather than just its physical details. Whether it’s a fluid acrylic painting mimicking the organic motion of water or a highly detailed piece conveying a personal story, my goal is always the same: to create art that resonates with people on a deeper level.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge the intuitive flow of fluid acrylics with the structured detail of traditional brushwork—bringing together the best of both worlds in a way that is visually striking and emotionally compelling. My work isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a connection and evoking emotion for those who appreciate fine art and meaningful expression.
I take immense pride in the evolution of my artistry, from exhibiting my work in galleries to building a community of collectors and followers who genuinely connect with my art. Every piece I create is intentional—whether it’s a personal exploration, an experimental technique, or a commissioned piece that brings someone else’s vision to life.
For those who follow my journey, I hope they see that my work is about more than just creating—it’s about exploring, evolving, and sharing a creative voice that speaks to others.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is at the core of any artist’s journey, and my path has been no exception. When I first started taking my artistry seriously, I knew that talent alone wouldn’t be enough—I would have to put in the work to get my art seen and valued.
Early on, I faced rejections from exhibitions and galleries, challenges in marketing my work, and the struggle of balancing creativity with the business side of being an artist. One of my biggest moments of resilience came when I submitted my work to a major art exhibition and was rejected. It stung, but I refused to let it define me. Instead, I used that rejection as fuel—I researched new opportunities, refined my portfolio, and kept submitting.
That persistence paid off. Over time, my work began getting accepted into shows, and I had the honor of seeing my Spirit of Detroit hat exhibited in California, my paintings featured in galleries, and my art reaching new audiences. Each milestone has reinforced the idea that success in the art world isn’t just about talent—it’s about consistency, adaptability, and the courage to keep putting yourself out there.
For anyone building a creative career, resilience is everything. You will hear “no” more than “yes”, but if you stay committed, refine your craft, and trust in your vision, those “yes” moments will come—and they will be worth every challenge along the way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me, art is more than just creating something visually appealing—it’s about capturing movement, emotion, and the energy of a moment. I love to explore the contrast between fluid, organic movement and structured, detailed brushwork, often blending the two in a way that brings depth and dimension to my pieces. Whether I’m working in fluid acrylics or refining intricate details with a brush, my goal is always to create work that tells a story, sparks curiosity, or evokes a personal connection for the viewer.
A major part of my mission is exploration—both in terms of artistic techniques and pushing the boundaries of what art can be. I don’t limit myself to a single style or format. While many of my pieces are inspired by landscapes and nature, I also enjoy experimenting with abstract elements, wearable art, and unconventional compositions. My Spirit of Detroit hat, which was featured in an exhibition, was an opportunity to expand beyond traditional canvases and explore how art can be integrated into everyday expression. It was a way to merge fine art with functionality, proving that creativity has no boundaries.
I also want my work to create a lasting impact. Art can be deeply personal, but it also has the power to connect people, challenge perspectives, and stir emotions. Whether someone is drawn to my work because it reminds them of a meaningful place, a feeling, or simply because they love the textures and movement, I want every piece to have a presence beyond the canvas. My goal is to continue evolving, exploring, and sharing my creative voice with the world.
