Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Tillman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsay, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I think the number one thing my parents did right was be right with God…as best as humanly possible. It was made evident through their living that it is less about doing & more about their being. In other words, that in this life, it is less about getting every little thing “right” and more about going inward and getting it healed. The older i’ve gotten, I’ve learned that I’ve been learning beside them this entire time. My parents’ hearts are rooted in compassion, grace, connection, truth, attention and intention, our light within, and above all a Godly love. They are as real as it gets to me because they pray as fervently as I’ve ever seen. And as a creative, the unseen is our greatest gift. Our family has generational abundance/wealth in the revelations of who God is. Always has been. And always will be.
Being a parent now myself, I understand the weight, the meaning, the subtle power in how a parent listens to their children; for they are the real teachers. Thank you parents for listening…for being oh-so present then & now & every moment in between. I thank God for y’all. I love y’all beyond what words could ever express.
Lindsay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Artchemist. GFTD.VSSL. I, Lindsay Imani Tillman was born on the 3rd of February, 1999, at 4:44, in Baltimore, Maryland. By the age of three I had chosen my love path with visual arts not knowing that by 7th grade the “visual” would also become my own body as an instrument, as a mover and maker. I was mentored by Adrienne Watson Carver at Studio A Modeling, Etiquette, and Dance Academy. I attended high school at Carver Center for the Arts & Technology for dance and earned my B.F.A. in Dance at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
My work is oriented around//towards (self)-healing, self-softening, heartwork, and learning//unlearning//relearning all that I am and ought to be. As a preacher’s kid, I have lived and moved through my discerning-body as a divine river and vessel of God. With my growing business, L.I.T.ink (est. 2017), I birth custom tattoo designs, as I delve deeper into my passion for body as canvas//capturing the liveness of skin and tattoos, as we imprint//impress ourselves on//in the world. I also welcome custom wearable art projects such as apparel, sneakers, and graduation caps and custom wall and mural art. I am the holy rebel who values the transformation through my art > the transaction. L.I.T.ink is a rEVOLution!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being an artist has undeniably drawn me nearer to God: the God & good in me: the me He has always known me to be. The ministry of “light, love & liberation” through my art is working in & through me too. This path has shown me how much of a miracle it all is. I am free. I am a living, breathing, moving work of art; and the most rewarding part is when a person I encounter realizes and actualizes that they are too. Through my art there is trust & healing & soul touch. We can journey in joy. As we are.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
•as mother- possibly the most important creative act of birthing…to be full of life & create it. both literally and artistically.
•as “artchemist” & “gftd.vssl”: My heart is on fire to (co)-create spaces of reality for healing and transformation full of life, light, love, and liberation including dance, visual art and tattooing, poetry and spoken word, voice and singing, and art therapy in and for all of us…if we just use what God gave us. if we just remember who we were before they told us who to be.
