We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.
Alright, Lindsay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
As a creative, especially as an artist there is a certain stigma tied with being an artist. “The starving artist” or that’s not a career more of a hobby. When I was younger hearing things like that was discouraging. I would always find myself watching documentaries about Walt Disney and how he started up from nothing and almost going bankrupt twice to being one of the most influential people and names of his time. It was after high school I started my first show. It was at a building in Downtown Phoenix. As soon as they opened the doors one gentleman walked up and wanted to buy one of my paintings. Just like that! My younger 19 year old self was almost in shock. It felt so good to have a painting sell like that. It was a batman painting. My first show was a success and I still continue to do shows and keep beating my records! It is amazing to be able to create the things like I do and have my work find new homes and make a living while doing it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello everyone My name is Lindsay and I am the proud owner of an art business called Lunar Art Paintings. I was one of those kids who would always rather be drawing then playing with other kids or reading books. I always had a pencil in my hand. It wasn’t until high school that I took my first watercolor class and fell in love with colors and the power of color theory. Through connections I found out about this program called RAW artists. They help feature undiscovered artists of all works show in venues to sell their work and help get exposure in their field. But it was not until I moved to Washington State that I started taking the venues and selling my artwork more as a profession. One thing I think that sets me apart from other artists in my field is my love for color and use of design and strong compositions that make my work intriguing. One of my biggest problems, even to date, is fighting that mental stigma of “art isn’t money” mentality. There is times that it amazes me that people buy my work even after I increased the prices. Its pushing past those mental barriers that what you create is good enough and the right person will come along. Don’t second guess your worth and stick to it. What I am most proud of is how much I have improved as an artist, not only in my skill and level of detail but my confidence in my work and getting out in my community and doing more venues.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is not that I get to make art everyday but when I am selling work at venues I get to see customers faces light up when they see something I made that they absolutely love! Sometimes people can afford an original but sometimes they cannot. I try to make my work accessible to all budgets so then they might buy a few prints or stickers. Maybe they really loved a piece but they wanted it on a eco-friendly reusable bag! For me seeing complete strangers get excited as I do about my artworks makes all the difference. Especially when kids come back and say they have been collecting my stickers!! How cool is that! That is the biggest reward for me.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
There are many ways society can support artist and other creatives. Some of those can be as simple as sharing a social post, taking a few business’ cards to hand out to your friends, or follow on us on social media. All these things don not involve spending money if you do not have the means, IF you do have the means and wish to support, buying our work is a fantastic way to show support. Repeat purchases never go un noticed! They always make my day and I enjoy getting to know the people that follow me and buy goods. If you like my work or another artists work do not eb afraid to ask if we do commissions. I love doing commission work! There are many ways to show your support.
