Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Sigg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsay, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
This thought actually crosses my mind multiple times a week. I tend to get discouraged when I have a slow day or even a slow week. I question if it would be easier to work a normal 9 to 5, receive a paycheck and not have to worry about an entire business. But what I realized is even receiving a consistent paycheck from a job doesn’t mean you won’t have other things to worry about in your life. So I’m either going to have my good and bad days as a 9-to-5 worker or I’ll have my good and bad days as a business owner. Being a business owner is hard, but it’s also extremely rewarding! Every day I am grateful for my business and for the chance to share my business with everyone. And even just the smallest complement from someone about my business makes it all worth it. And I realized in order to support a business during start up you need to have multiple jobs. So I do have a couple regular jobs and then I go to my studio and put my time in there. Although it may seem easier at times to not have to worry about running a business, I remind myself that I did this. I accomplished this. I wanted this and I worked to make it happen.
Lindsay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a selfie Museum. You purchase an admission ticket which is good for one hour at our studio. You can take as many selfies with your own phone or camera as your heart desires in that timeframe. You are welcome to bring outfit changes, props, balloons and we supply you with the backdrops, ring lights and Bluetooth clickers for hands-free photos. We also host parties for all ages, as well as baby showers, ladies nights, movie nights, candle workshops, bridal parties, video shoots, newborn photos, etc. we tried to make any party possible at our studio. If you aren’t into selfies or are you prefer more professional style photos we have our own photographer packages or you are welcome to bring in your own photographer. Our studio is meant for all ages and pets as well! The goal was to create a unique space for anyone and everyone to be creative, have fun, take a range of photos and videos whether it’s for professional purposes or just fun candid shots for long lasting memories.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We love social media! Being a selfie museum our business revolves around photos, videos and social media. But our studio isn’t just for content creators. It’s for everyone! I went to school and graduated with a degree in small business and marketing, I then use those tools to not only create and start my business but also manage my marketing and social media full-time. I have also had experience working in marketing for other small businesses and continue to do so currently. Our social media runs on customer content. I am beyond grateful when customers post their photos or videos from our studio and tag us so that we are able to grow by word of mouth but also re-share those pictures and videos for our own social media pages. Being in marketing I’m constantly watching the trends, and learning about tools for growing online. My most simple advice would be to stay consistent, build a brand and although you want to change your brand or style in the future slowly transition in order to make it look smooth to your viewers.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I thought posting on social media would draw in the most clientele. However for my business in this area that’s not always the case. I found that partnering with other local business owners to create events whether at their space or my storefront has been the best for bringing in new and current clientele. Although some of our events may not be huge, people enjoy new, different, unique events for them to participate in. We have had The Boba Shop come in, Sugar High Cotton Candy, Petals and Presents has done a flower bouquet pop-up, Local Honey boutique has joined us, Just Lovelee boutique has hosted an event as well as She’ll Rise.
