We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Rapp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.
Lindsay, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents were all about teaching practical life skills, and were both instrumental in teaching me personal finance. My mom was a bank teller, and my father worked a family business. Mom always emphasized the importance of saving and balancing the checkbook, and she made sure I was contributing to my 401K when I got my first corporate job. Building that base retirement account my first 5 years in the workforce allowed me the flexibility of moving into the entrepreneurial space; I knew I had a safety net. Dad taught me the Pros and Cons of running your own business, and taught me how to file my taxes. They gave me the knowledge and confidence to be responsible and independent. Something they may have regretted slightly when I moved out of state upon accepting my first job out of college, haha.

Lindsay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being intentional about living a healthy lifestyle began when I was pregnant with my first child. Growing a tiny human inside my womb made me keenly aware of what I put on and in my body. Of course that continued after I gave birth, wanting to give my daughter the best building blocks to grow and flourish. At that time, I also became a stay at home mom. I spent a lot of time making my own baby food, and researching the safest cleaning products and personal care items. When my son came along, we saw pretty early on he had challenges we didn’t see with his sister. It was a rough few years…but I learned so much and am so thankful for the resources we found. One tool I wish I had discovered much earlier was dōTERRA essential oils…I could have saved so much time and money with these little brown bottles at my disposal! But, it’s never too late to start. dōTERRA’s essential oils were the missing piece to our healthy lifestyles.
Over the years, friends had sought me out for advice on healthy eating, safe kids products, feeding picky eaters, etc, so sharing dōTERRA products came pretty naturally. Initially, I just shared with close friends who I knew would be open to trying them. But as things progressed and my youngest started Kindergarten, I realized that dōTERRA not only has great products, but an excellent compensation plan. The transition from SAHM to small business owner came pretty naturally to me, because I was doing something I was passionate about: teaching people how to reach optimal personal wellness.
I’ve been sharing dōTERRA since 2013, and I can say there has never been a product line that I have been more excited about, than our new MetaPWR Metabolic Product System. People who are using MetaPWR have seen improvements in areas like: energy levels, weight management, mood balance, sleep quality, mental clarity, stress levels, and even vision! dōTERRA spends years researching and testing new products to ensure quality, sustainability, and effectiveness. I could write several more paragraphs about the financial stability, and corporate responsibility that is at the core of everything dōTERRA does!
I enjoy engaging with people both 1 on 1, and in group settings. I meet in coffee shops, homes, private meeting spaces, and public libraries. In addition to talking with people to understand their needs, I have a tool called an itovi scanner that takes a biometric reading and indicates which dōTERRA products would be most beneficial at that time. I also offer an oil application technique, in which a series of oils are applied to the back and feet, for targeted areas like: immune function, respiratory support, musculoskeletal system, mind and mood support.
My favorite part about having a dōTERRA business is the connections I make with people. I work with some of my best friends (and my sister!) and have formed deep relationships with people I would have never met outside of my small business.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There have been many books that have helped me as a leader, an entrepreneur, and especially in the direct sales business over the years:
Rejection Proof by Jia Jiang is absolute GOLD for anyone in any type of sales industry. Jiang is a great story-teller, and this book will inspire and challenge you. Atomic Habits by James Clear is an ideal gift for high school and college students, but you are never too old to apply the lessons in this book. It should be at the top of your reading list! The third book I want to highlight is Essentialism by Greg McKeown. If you struggle with being busy but not productive, or having too many things on your To-Do list, this book is for you.
However, the most helpful resource I have come across for my business is CliftonStrengths by Gallup. This program utilizes a questionnaire designed to uncover ones top strengths (also called talents). There are a total of 34 strengths, in 4 different categories. Understanding my unique combination of talents allows me to complete tasks and projects in a way that feels natural and effective. To take it a step further, my teammates also use this tool, and together we have a better understanding of how to relate to and encourage each other, as well as call each other out when we are working against our talents.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would absolutely make the same educational and career choices if given the chance. While community college wasn’t glamorous, I had an academic scholarship, and only had to pay for books. I had done my research, and knew which major to select so that all of my credits would transfer to my University of choice. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Management, which gave me a pretty broad background for business. I took the first job I was offered after college. It was by no means a dream job, but it did allow me to meet my future husband, move a to new state which became “home” for 10 years, and start a nest egg.
After 5 years, I was ready for a new challenge, and had the financial stability and confidence to earn my Real Estate License. My time in Real Estate ended up being rather short-lived, as I decided to become a stay at home mom when we had our first child. But that experience was invaluable. It gave me an appreciation for being my own boss, learning how to relate to all sorts of people, and build trust. Buying a home is a HUGE deal, and being an integral part of that process was very satisfying. I get a similar satisfaction now, helping people improve their health!
