We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Potter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.
Lindsay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As a confidence coach for teen athletes, I’ve lived through the highs and lows of being a high-performing athlete myself. In my senior year of high school, I was the co-captain of the women’s lacrosse team, but despite my hard work and dedication, my coach didn’t believe in me. The culmination of this experience was being benched in the state semi-final game against our biggest rival, without explanation. The words that stuck with me were ‘You will never make it in this sport.’ Those words could have defined me, but instead, I chose to use them as fuel to prove myself wrong. In college, I worked even harder to develop the mental toughness and emotional resilience that allowed me to thrive in my sport and beyond. I learned that with the right mindset, I could overcome any obstacle and achieve success. This journey taught me the importance of confidence, self-trust, and perseverance. Now, I’m on a mission to help teen athletes overcome the same struggles I faced. I know what it’s like to face self-doubt, fear of failure, and the pressure to perform. But I also know the power of believing in oneself. My goal is to empower young athletes with the mental resilience tools and mindset shifts they need to build confidence, perform at their best, and succeed in life beyond their sport. This mission is deeply personal for me because I’ve seen firsthand how sports can be a platform for personal growth, self-discovery, and empowerment. I believe that every teen athlete deserves to have the same opportunities I did, and I’m committed to helping them unlock their full potential.”
Lindsay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m thrilled to introduce myself and my brand! I am Lindsay Potter, a confidence coach dedicated to empowering teen athletes to overcome self-doubt, fear of failure, and unlock their full potential on and off the field. My journey into this industry began with my own journey of self-awareness after an unexpected career shift in 2020. After a decade as a marketing director in the CPG space with a focus on beverage startups, I hit a wall. I was ready to do work that was more aligned with who I am and what I excel at. Sports have always been a part of my DNA, both as an athlete and a coach so I became certified as a transformation & mindset coach. Through my coaching services, I provide tools that equip my clients with the skills to overcome stress and overwhelm, make authentic decisions, and trust themselves. What sets me apart is my focus on practical tools that can be applied not just in sports, but in everyday life. I help my clients shift their perspective, build mental resilience, and develop a growth-oriented mindset that serves them well beyond their athletic careers. My approach is unique in that it’s heartfelt, positive, and informative, yet fun. I am also a collegiate All-American athlete who is in the Hall of Fame at my alma mater, have been coaching youth sports for 20+ years, and am raising two teenage kids of my own. I inspire my clients to take action, and my mission is to build confidence in teen athletes. My vision is to innovate and evolve with each new generation of athletes, understanding their unique challenges and passions. I’m most proud of the transformative impact my coaching has on the lives of my clients. Seeing them break through barriers, overcome self-doubt, and discover their inner strength is truly fulfilling. I want potential clients to know that my brand is a safe space for them to explore their challenges and desires, and that I’m committed to helping them unlock their full potential. Ultimately, I want my audience to know that my coaching services are not just about sports performance, but about helping them develop the mental toughness, resilience, and confidence to succeed in all areas of their lives. I’m excited to connect with readers who are passionate about personal growth, sports, and empowerment. On a related note, I’m thrilled to announce that my podcast, The Confidence Game, is re-launching in January. After interviewing entrepreneurs on my previous podcast, Constantly Curious, I’m now focusing on business and mindset experts who can share valuable insights on building confidence and achieving success. I look forward to inspiring my audience to take action towards building their confidence and unlocking their full potential.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In early 2020, just before COVID-19 reshaped the world, I was laid off from my role as Director of Marketing for a publicly traded company. It was part of a larger restructuring due to budget cuts, but that didn’t make it any less challenging. While I understood it wasn’t personal, I was at a crossroads—not just professionally but personally. I was burnt out from years in marketing and realized I wanted to pursue work that felt more aligned with my values and passions. The problem was, I didn’t yet know what that work would be. That moment marked the beginning of a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. I realized that change is possible when you make a conscious decision to embrace it. The first step for me was acknowledging what wasn’t working in my life and taking ownership of the changes I needed to make. I began looking inward, exploring practices like meditation and mindfulness. For the first time, I allowed myself to sit quietly with my thoughts—free from the noise of daily life. This practice brought clarity and answers to questions I hadn’t even realized I was asking.
Another major shift came when I reevaluated my lifestyle. Working in the beverage industry for years had normalized habits of socializing late into the night and overindulging. I decided to take a break from drinking, which lasted nine months, and now maintain a balanced and intentional approach to alcohol. The result was transformative: I slept better, felt more present, and gained a deeper sense of trust in myself.
Alongside these personal changes, I sought support through breathwork, coaching, and introspective practices, which helped me uncover a career path that had been with me all along. For over two decades, I’d been coaching youth sports—a role I’d always loved but never considered as a professional path. Through this period of healing and reflection, I realized my passion for coaching extended far beyond sports. I saw an opportunity to help teens develop confidence, resilience, and the tools to navigate the pressures of their lives—much like I had during my own journey.
This pivot, though born out of uncertainty, ultimately led me to where I am today: a confidence coach for teens. It’s work that is not only deeply fulfilling but also a reflection of the person I’ve become through this transformative experience.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2020, after being laid off from my role as Director of Marketing, I found myself at a crossroads. It wasn’t just the loss of a job—it felt like the loss of a clear identity I had spent years building. But resilience, I’ve come to learn, is not about avoiding challenges; it’s about how you respond when faced with uncertainty.
In the days and weeks that followed, I allowed myself to sit with the discomfort and ask tough questions about what truly mattered to me. One of the most significant lessons in resilience came from realizing that I didn’t have all the answers—and that was okay. Instead of rushing to find the next job, I focused on rebuilding from the inside out.
Resilience meant leaning into small, daily commitments that helped me grow stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically. For example, I developed a consistent meditation practice that forced me to slow down and tune into my inner voice, even when it felt easier to distract myself. I also set boundaries around habits that were holding me back, including taking a break from drinking, which improved my focus and energy.
One of the most challenging moments came when I decided to completely redefine my career. For over two decades, I had made time to coach youth sports because I love it, but I had never considered it as a full-time path. Stepping into that world professionally meant putting myself out there in a completely new way—sharing my story, creating programs, and trusting that I could succeed in an unfamiliar space.
Resilience in this context was about persistence. There were moments of doubt, rejection, and uncertainty, but I kept coming back to my “why”: helping young athletes navigate the same challenges I had faced with confidence and strength. It wasn’t always easy, but the combination of self-reflection, intentional action, and unwavering commitment to my vision got me through.
Looking back, I see resilience not as a single, defining moment, but as the accumulation of countless small decisions to keep moving forward, no matter how difficult the journey felt. That same approach is what I now teach my clients—because resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about building the strength to face whatever comes next with clarity and confidence
