Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay O’Reilly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lindsay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Functional nutrition is becoming more widely used but it’s definitely outside of what we were taught in school and in clinical training. Going through my own health struggles convinced me that practicing in this area was the way I was going to best help women struggling with the same type of issues. That’s how I decided to open up my own nutrition practice and focus on women’s health through functional nutrition. Never in a million years would I have told you I’d be doing that sometime in my career!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a registered dietitian with a functional nutrition private practice in the Kansas City area. I help women with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s get to the root cause of their thyroid dysfunction to increase energy and eliminate their other nagging symptoms so they can feel like themselves again. So many women just want to feel like themself again!
I got into functional nutrition, specifically for thyroid disorders, after my own diagnosis of hypothyroidism out of the blue. It’s important for me to listen to and help women who are struggling and going through the same thing as so many women are dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told it’s all in their heads.
I truly believe in functional medicine and nutrition working to get to the why behind symptoms and using individualized treatment for lasting improvements. There are different ways to do things and nutrition and lifestyle can go a really long way in helping someone to feel better!
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would choose the same specialty again but I would have done it sooner. Seeing the impact this work has on the clients I see is motivating to keep going and to keep learning.
I would also incorporate more business focus training because that’s not something we’re taught in nutrition school. Private practice is becoming more mainstream in the nutrition and health world and having more of a business background would be so helpful!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building that know, like, and trust factor with people via social media has been a big way I’ve built my reputation and following. People want to see the real you. They want to know your story and that you’re relatable but also how you help people like them. We’re in such an interesting time with access to information and it’s a great way to increase business if used well.
