Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Niedringhaus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I didn’t start out thinking I wanted to begin a marketing firm. Rather, I left my full-time job knowing it wasn’t fulfilling but also not knowing what was next. I reached out to past clients and friends and told them I could freelance write or create marketing strategies. The result was an outpouring of “Yes!” Quickly I had more clients than I could manage, so I began to hire people to help.
I came up with the “idea” that is now TealHaus Strategies because I had been on both sides of the agency-client relationship: I’d hired the agencies and wondered why I wasn’t getting what I wanted, and I was also the agency and saw the wasted time and money on our end. I hated arguing with clients over billing or attempting to justify the “hours” we had spent. So, I decided it was time for me do things my way: quicker, more efficiently, and with the client’s needs as top priority.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I just explained how we came about. In general, TealHaus is a full-service marketing agency. Our name came about from two ideas: teal is the color of communication and clarity. “Haus” is part of my last name, but it also means “house” in German. I want our clients to feel like they are in our “house” when they work with us. I always say we have no egos in this (I’ve worked with my fair share of really big ego agencies), so I want our clients to feel freedom to ask anything and everything with us.
We meet clients where they’re at. Whether they have a marketing person on staff, several people working on marketing projects, or nobody, we are ready to “fill in the holes.” We are adept at connecting the dots with your staff, figuring out where their job ends and ours begins. And we train your staff to be the best marketers they can be.
I am extremely proud of our ability to write a comprehensive marketing strategy as well as our amazing client services. Nobody ever wonders what we’re up to or how we’re fulfilling their needs. Our clients are well informed and are part of the process.
Any advice for managing a team?
My best advice is to be in the mess with them. Employees respect leaders who aren’t afraid to dig in and work on their level. I do my best to delegate, but when employees need my help, I am right there with them, writing presentations and accommodating them in meetings.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
It’s simply, really. Good work. When we work hard and show our clients the proven results, they understand our worth. And then they tell others about us. Referrals mean more than anything to us!
