We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsay Jordan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsay , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I don’t know if it’s the most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on, but I’d love to talk about my newest release “Always”!
I wrote this song after a very difficult break up with someone who struggled badly with alcohol addiction. It was sort of a farewell song as sad as that is, because I had realized that I needed to love this person from afar in order to protect myself. The words “I’ll always be there to love you” aren’t meant to be so literal as, I’ll never leave you, but more that I will always have love for you and wish you well. Sometimes we need to make these decisions to be in control of our own happiness, but leaving does not erase the love you feel. For me, the song is a reminder to put myself first, because I have to live with myself forever.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a singer, songwriter and musician from NJ. I grew up in a family of musicians and started singing/performing at age 6 with my Dad playing guitar for me at school talent shows, and popping on stage at shows with his bands. Around age 13, I taught myself to play the acoustic guitar, and a couple years later started writing songs.
I write a lot from my personal experiences with relationships, friendships, breakups, and social issues. My fans seem to relate to this considering, I’m certainly not the only one who’s been through these things! For me, writing is a form of therapy. I get to take something that takes up a lot of “brain space” and leave some of that emotion in a song. It helps me, and I love that it helps others process their own emotions and trauma too.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
One of the best ways for people to support artists is by liking and commenting on social media posts! It is a completely free way to show love to an artist. Just by doing that, you boost our engagement which in return tells the algorithm to show our posts to more people. So the next time you are scrolling through Instagram, Facebook, TikTok etc. and you see a post from a cool artist, make sure to give a like and comment before you scroll away!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A few years ago, I was given some great opportunities by a man that I had met at a gig. He became my manager of sorts, and promised a lot of things. I got to hang around with some famous people and play on big stages. Being as young as I was and very new to the business, I was a bit naive and didn’t anticipate what the real agenda was for this guy. Long story short, it ended badly with him drugging my drink and getting what he wanted; which was not my talent. Not only was this a traumatic incident for me, but it felt like a huge blow to my career that I thought was finally starting to take off. It felt like I had to restart a bit. But I did get back on my feet, I put together a band to play my original music live, I started traveling to Nashville for opportunities, and I’m way further along than I ever was with his help. I even wrote a song about the incident called “That’ll be the day” which really helped me to process what happened and get some of my anger out. I haven’t recorded or released this song yet, but you can hear it if you come to a live full band show!
