We were lucky to catch up with Lindsay Giedl recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
I just recently signed with my first agency – Aligned Stars Agency in Atlanta, Georgia! This is a women owned agency and I am very excited for this opportunity!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been dancing since the age of 2 and always knew I wanted to be a dancer when I ‘grew up’. It wasn’t until 2019 that I really got into teaching and being an educator. I began subbing for the Joffrey Ballet School in 2018 and fell in love with teaching while working for that program. I was able to watch world class teachers like Colleen Barnes and Rodney Hamilton and really fell in love with the opportunity to educate dancers while trying to change the stigma’s and current culture behind dance. I had been teaching since 201o but this was really when I feel like I began my career.
Fast forward to 2024 and I am not a Co-Owner and Dance Director of The Studio Athens, a convention teacher and judge for Ignite Dance Competition, on my 8th season with the Joffrey Ballet School and guest teaching for Ballet Hispanico’s trainee program and other great programs around the southeast!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing the joy of dancers on stage. I love to teach and be in the studio but there is no better feeling than seeing and empowering other dance artists on stage!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my biggest missions right now is creating an inclusive dress code in my current studio for dancers of color and all gender identities while upholding the program to the strict guidelines and necessary dress code needs. We are currently working with Eurotard Dancewear to create our perfect dress code. I chose Eurotard Dancewear because they offer tights, jazz shoes, turning shoes, and ballet shoes in a full range of colors. It is important for dancers to not only have the option to wear their skin color shoes and tights in a ballet class but also see the support from their Dance School and Directors.
