Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Dorn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned photography in high school with the start of film and transitioning to digital photography. I then continued studying photography when I attended Northern Arizona University. Knowing everything I know now, I wish I would have spent more time collaborating with other photographers to help learn more useful tips and tricks of the industry and utilizing the tutorials on YouTube, Instagram, or even TikTok. The most essential skills I learned would be learning all the ins and outs of my camera equipment as well as the use of prompts during sessions to help my clients feel more comfortable in front of the camera and capture the emotions of sessions!
Lindsay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Lindsay Dorn, a wife, mom, dog mom, photographer and much more! When I’m not editing and watching Friends (coffee in hand) you can find me working on DIY home projects, playing badminton or traveling! As someone who has always had a passion for capturing moments through photography I am thrilled to share my passion with you all. Over the years, I have honed in on my minimal editing style and ability to capture my clients true authentic self making the images a cherished memory throughout the years. As a portrait photographer, I capture uniquely crafted portraits for all your families needs! I photograph anything from weddings, engagements, maternity, newborn, graduation, and families.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Resources I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey is all the different YouTube videos, podcasts, and even Facebook groups. On Youtube you can find tutorials on your specific camera to learn all about your settings and how to get sharper images. You can also find out all about posing, lighting and different creative tips and tricks to use at all different kinds of sessions. Podcasts are a great resource for photographers to help build your business up, learn all about SEO’s and how to utilize social media to get the cliental you are looking for and so much more! Facebook Groups can be helpful to shadow with a photographer who’s been in the field for a long time to show you the ropes of the type of sessions you want to improve in, get help with location suggestions, or buying new gear!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the freedom it allows, from allowing all my artistic visions/dreams to come to life as well as the flexibility it provides my family and I. With being a business owner it means I am able to create my own schedule and availability to ensure I am home with my son all while serving my clients on their schedule as well. I am very fortunate to be able to express my creativity at every session as well as capturing my clients major life milestones and creative ideas they have!
