We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsay Crawford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Growing up, I was always self conscious of myself. Dealing with difficult acne and self image issues made high school so much harder than it already was. I learned to use makeup to cover up my acne and build my confidence back up. I stared becoming more and more creative with my makeup skills and I quickly knew the beauty industry was the career path I wanted to follow. After getting my own brows and lashes done and learning how to clear up my skin, I found myself not alway having to wear makeup and to feel confident in my own skin. That is a feeling everyone deserves to have and I absolutely love being able to help others feel that way as well. People underestimate the power your brows and lashes can hold and the confidence it can give you to love your bare face!

Lindsay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Lindsay Crawford and my love for makeup and passion for building self confidence is how I got into the beauty industry. I provide a variety of lash and brow services that enhance each clients natural beauty as well as makeup for events, weddings, parties, etc. Some of my services include Lash Lifts and Tints, Brow Laminations, Brow Tints, Brow Shaping, and Microblading/Powder Brows. I think what sets me apart from others is that I truly believe in listening to your clients wants and needs and using that to customize the exact look they are going for. In todays world there can be a lot of different opinions you read about services online or trends you find on social media. Everybody’s face is different and being able to cater to each clients specific features and help them achieve the look they are going for is the most important part to me. In every one of my services I always explain that we can go as natural or as bold as they would like to. Focusing on my clients specific needs rather than micro trends or social media status is something I take pride in and I believe resonates with my clients and reflects in my work.
Have you ever had to pivot?
A few months after graduating from the University of Arkansas, I began my first full time job here in Austin. Although I enjoyed my corporate job I knew I always wanted to work in the beauty industry but just wasn’t sure how or when that would happen. After a few months in that job I decided to quit and enroll in esthetician school in order to pursue my dreams. It was not an easy decision to make, especially being so fresh out of college I kept wondering if I should just stick it out and work a “normal” job. My parents are actually the ones who pushed me to take the leap and without their support I would not be where I am today.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think the most effective strategy for growing and maintaining my clientele has been word of mouth and Instagram. Instagram has played a major role in getting new clients in the door, whether it is by running ads or just simply the exposure of my work by consistently posting. When clients hear about the experience from someone they trust I believe they are more likely to be less nervous of trying a new artist as well as more likely to come in consistently. Trying a new artist with your face can be nerve wracking, so having a friend or family member they know had a pleasant experience and great results helps new clients feel at ease. In this industry it can be a big toss up of clients that come in ever so often or just before an event and clients that stick to a routine schedule and prebook their appointments religiously. Creating those connections and consistent results is how I maintain the clientele I have built. Clients that follow me on instagram will always be the first to hear about new specials and last minute appointment times, reminding them that it may be time for them to come in again. The combination of word of mouth and social media marketing and running ads is where I have found the most success in growing my clientele.
