We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsay Coser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
There are a lot of varying opinions and beliefs in the photography industry, but the one that sticks out the most is editing style. In the industry you can get blasted for your editing style and not sticking to 1 main format. I tend not to follow the crowd and I edit each session with it’s own uniqueness. I like the session to tell the story of sorts and give it it’s own personal touch.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a woman-owned small business and principal photographer of That Chick & A Camera. I have a few different areas of specialty; weddings, family, newborns, and fine art.
But I am always open to unique photo ideas. I have a photo bucket list and I try to cross off 2-3 sessions a year. I am most proud that; I am going into my 6th year of business.
I love what I do, and I put my passion into getting the best photos during each session. I love capturing each little detail and memory that will last a lifetime.
I started playing with a camera after my oldest son was born. I ended up loving it and finding a passion I never knew I had.
Back in 2017, I turned my passion into a business, and I have never been happier. I have had numerous photos featured in International Magazines, won the Editor’s Choice Award for one of my photos & was Photographer of the month for a Boudoir Magazine.
I have met so many amazing and wonderful people on this journey. And I am so very thankful and blessed for what I have accomplished thus far in my life.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I have 2 actually. The first would be referrals from clients. It’s awesome to when I get calls or messages from new clients who have been referred to me from a current client.
The second would be, when I visit a clients home or receive photos of my work on their walls and throughout their home. It is an amazing feeling still, even after 6 years in the industry.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I always do my best to capture every moment of a session regardless of the type is. If sessions don’t turn and a reshoot is possible I will always take that opportunity till I get it perfect. I have been told by clients they like the personalized service and that I am awesome at sessions with children, because of my patience. I am adaptable and fun to work with. Clients typically turn into friends and I think that has helped take me to where I am currently in this industry.
