Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
On December 31, 2020 I finally got a positive pregnancy test!! I was a woman not only suffering from PCOS but also dealing with an abusive partner. Before the clock strike 12pm and the new year rolled in my abusive partner came home drunk and high and beat me beyond belief including putting a knife to my neck in front of his only 8yr old daughter! At that point I was done with it all and felt only way out was death! I felt as if God didn’t love me enough to help me and allowed my abuser to do the things he would do. I cursed God I gave up on my prayer and meditation life and took every opportunity to TRY and end my own life. 27 days later while laying in bed I just knew after this fight it was over and I was most definitely going to die! I remember telling God ” If you don’t help me NOW I will help myself” Of course suicide is the only thing I could think of. Then my phone ringed! The person on the other end of the phone talked me through my storm and helped me regain my confidence in God! She encouraged me to go to my prayer corner and light my candles and just talk to God and my ancestors and asked them for help! As reluctant as I was I knew that God sent this person to me to comfort me and help me through my situation. So I begin to thank God for that moment because although things were rough I never was ok with ending my life, it just seemed like an easy fix at the time. So I asked him to give me a sign of what my destiny was and why he is taking me through this storm. So for days I sat in my prayer corner and prayed and did multiple candle rituals to help heal me. Before I knew it all of my candle supply was gone and I went from store to store and couldn’t find any due to covid shortage. So ultimately decided to make candles for myself. While embarking on this new craft it gave me my peace and joy and ultimately rebuilt my relationship with God. Through embarking on my candle making journey God showed me in a vision just how much my craft and story will help others. That is the ultimate reason I decided to make my craft a business so that I can reach the masses one candle at a time!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The Wilderness Candle Co. was founded by Lindsay Brown. Prophetess Priestess Lindsay J. Brown embarked on her candle making journey during the biggest storm of her life. While living in an abusive relationship. Lindsay suffered a miscarriage by the hands of her abuser. In efforts to seek comfort and peace in what seemed like a never ending cycle she depended on her prayer/meditation and candle lighting rituals. At this time candle supply was very few and far in between in every store around her due to Covid. Which ultimately led to Lindsay deciding to create her own candles.
What started as a way to heal and get through rough days. Quickly turned into a business. This pushed Lindsay in ways that she didn’t know she can be pushed and helped her use her talent to not only create a multi million dollar business but to also help her weather her current storm and use life’s lessons to help others get through rough times.
Lindsay ultimately fled the abusive relationship being robbed of everything she owned and work so hard for including her businesses.
Lindsay made the decision that her life was more valuable than any worldly possession and if God gave it once he can give it again 10 times fold!
So she fled that old life Empty Handed!
Moving clear across the world with nothing but her faith and God by her side. Lindsay didn’t know how she would make it in a whole new environment with nothing to call her own.
On the contrary one thing Lindsay never gave up on was God as her constant companion and her passion to create candles and help others.
Rebuilding wasn’t as hard as Lindsay expected!
Lindsay not only moved to a new environment she also met her soulmate Shayla who supported her in ways Lindsay couldn’t even imagine.
Within 6-12 months of Lindsay starting her new life over she married her soulmate moved into a new home and begin revamping her life in peace joy happiness and unconditional love.
And Of course MAKING CANDLES!
Lindsay is not only the founder of The Wilderness Candle Co. Lindsay is also an Ordained Prophet Priestess, a card reader, channeler, and journey coach. Lindsay enjoys using her energy to help others along their journey and allowing her experience to be the teacher.
I take pride in knowing that I went through My Wilderness so another woman can learn how to get through theirs!
God built me for this and I will save one woman at a time through my story
-Priestess Lindsay J Brown
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
June 7th is the day I fled from my abuser. At the time everything I owned including all candles and products was in a storage. Due to me trying to flee from him in May. So that morning after being choked almost to death a young woman whom worked and lived in the hotel heard everything and got with her management to help me escape. They transported me to a DV shelter and there I was offered helped to gain my belongings and be sent to another state. All I wanted was my candles I had over 300 candles made and people ready to buy. My abuser took it all and in order to be able to get it is to go through him. So I told the DV counselor that i’ll leave it all behind just help me get somewhere so I can rebuild my life. After calling shelters all around the world I was finally accepted in Florida and they paid for me to go. All I had was 5 pairs of underwear and 7 outfits! When I made it to Florida and sat on the beach for the first time in my life. I felt like I was in paradise and there isn’t anything that I had that God couldn’t give back to me! That moment forward I decided that no matter what as soon as I get into my own place I will recreate my business!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
April 19th 2022 the company I was working for decided they would cut contracts with Verizon which landed me and 100’s of people jobless! At this point I was set on launching the revamp of my candle business May 3rd 2022. I was so distraught and felt like I couldn’t possibly be ready to launched I needed to find another job asap! My wife and Godmother begged me to not focus on a job and only focus on the business and they would help me every step of the way! May 3rd rolled around and I felt as if I was ready and scrambling to be ready. Even little details on my self built website wasn’t the way I wanted. I thought why not push the date back. BUT GOD! God set me up in a way that any and everything was pushing me to keep my promise and launch on 5/3/2022. People I didn’t know that knew my story was inboxing and asking about the candles and when will they be able to order. So instead of letting my fear get the best of me I remembered what God said! As long as I push God will pull me through. Every since then I have been in business and only working for myself. It allowed me the freedom to create my own work times and still enjoy life and the blessings I received from focusing on my business! This interview for instance is just a reminder that If I push God will pull!
