We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lindsay Boreing. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lindsay below.
Lindsay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember—stories, songs, whatever scraps of inspiration I could get my hands on. When it rained, my mom would find me curled up in the backseat of her car, scribbling away, listening to the patter of raindrops as they hit the windshield.
Eventually, that love for stories turned into something bigger. My sisters and I formed a country pop group called The Long Girlz—because, back in the early 2000s, you absolutely had to misspell your band name to be cool. By the time I was 14, I was playing bars and venues all over Texas, juggling school and gigs, and skipping so many choir practices that I eventually got kicked out of my high school’s honor choir.
I thought I might follow a “normal” path—studied Public Relations at Texas Tech (Go Raiders!) like my dad, who was the first Australian to score a U.S. golf scholarship. But somewhere between those PR classes, I had a realization: this isn’t me. So I shifted gears and dove into the Commercial Music program at South Plains College, where I pretty much should have earned an honorary doctorate in songwriting, ensembles, and voice lessons. (I was there a looong time.)
And that’s where I met Will Boreing—the man who’s disgustingly good at everything musical. Guitar, drums, keys, bass, engineering, producing… I mean, seriously. I saw him across the hall, and that was it. I called him that same night: “Hi, it’s Lindsay from earlier. We’re going to be together. Do you want to just come pick me up or…?” Poor guy never stood a chance.
We got married on 10/10/10—our “Long and Boreing” wedding, was anything but boring. I even sang a Led Zeppelin medley at the reception—in my wedding dress, no less. In 2012, I released my first EP, A Cautionary Tale—a spooky little pop cabaret record—and not long after, we were packing up a U-Haul and heading for LA, where Will had signed with Sleepwalker Records, a David Hodges venture.
LA changed everything. I’d always thought of myself as a singer and performer, but that’s where I truly fell in love with songwriting. By day, I was doing makeup for a production company, and by night, I was cramming in co-writing sessions any chance I got.
Life, of course, had other plans. When my mom passed away in 2016, we found ourselves back in Lubbock. (Side note: my mom, Riki Long, actually invented the Chilton cocktail at the Lubbock Country Club during a dinner with Dr. Chilton himself. Mystery solved! You’re welcome, Texas.)
Back in my hometown, I gigged like crazy—four to five, three-hour shows a week—until the week I gave birth to my first daughter, Savvy. Then came our second, Heidi. And just when I thought I’d seen it all, we were called to write music for a movie soundtrack in Rome and Budapest. We ended up staying for months. And let me tell you—Italy has my heart forever.
After that whirlwind adventure, we landed in Nashville, where I’ve been flexing every creative muscle I have. I’ve written for my own projects—Lindsay Boreing and Chasing Ivy—as well as for other artists like Cyndi Thomson, The DieAlices, Jay Denton, Dustin Garrett, and fiveoclockcharlie. I even finished an 80,000-word manuscript under a pseudonym and found my voice (literally) in audiobook narration and cartoon voiceovers.
So, how did I go from “idea” to “doing the thing”? It wasn’t overnight. It was a million little choices—saying yes to weird opportunities, no to comfort zones, and hell yes to chasing the thing that set my soul on fire. I didn’t have a five-year plan; I had a fierce determination, a love for telling stories, and a tendency to keep moving forward, even when life threw curveballs.
And here I am—living my artist’s dream, one lyric, one story, and one unpredictable adventure at a time.

Lindsay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Texas-raised girl with roots from- as I joke, “the deep south”… since I’m half Texan and half Australian. I grew up touring Texas with my sisters in the pop country group “The Long Girlz”, as well as, selling out bars and theaters as lead singer of various underground pop and rock bands. I’m a performer through and through on stage, but some of my most magical moments have been born behind closed doors in the songwriting room. The music I write is a blend of relatable and genuine with the aim that my songs end up both timeless and modern. I don’t just write party songs or breakup songs. I write truthful songs that let you know life and love are better when you’re vulnerable.
When not songwriting for myself or my project Chasing Ivy, I’m writing for other artists like Cyndi Thomson, DieAlices, fiveoclockcharlie, Jay Denton, John Dempsy, Dustin Garrett, and for synch with Atrium Music – Music Licensing For TV, Film and Commercials.
I’m a writer down to my core, having just completed an 80,000 word manuscript under a pseudonym.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Of course, I’d love to have a chart-topping single, land on the bestseller list, and play sold-out coliseums… but at the heart of it all, my real goal is simple: I want to make things that people love. The idea that one of my songs, stories, or performances could be someone’s favorite—the thing they turn to when they need a laugh, a cry, an outlet, a memory—that’s what keeps me going.
It’s not about fame or recognition (although I won’t lie, that would be nice); it’s about connection. I want to leave something behind that matters to someone—whether it’s a lyric that makes them feel seen, a story that lingers in their mind, or a melody that reminds them they’re not alone. If I can do that—if I can make even one person’s day brighter or their world feel a little less heavy—then all the struggles, late nights, and doubts will have been so worth it.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The business I’m in—whether it’s music, writing, or voice work—is volatile, ever-changing, and, to most people, completely unreliable. Unlike a traditional nine-to-five, there’s no guaranteed paycheck hitting my account on the 1st and 15th of every month. There are dry spells and busy seasons, moments of celebration, and stretches of uncertainty. From the outside, that can look unstable, even reckless. People ask, “Why not just get a ‘real’ job?”
What they don’t see is that this isn’t a hobby. It’s not something I tinker with in my spare time. It’s a craft I’ve poured thousands of hours into—refining, adjusting, evolving. Every song I write, every story I tell, every performance I give comes from a place of relentless dedication. This isn’t just a job; it’s an obsession.
I didn’t choose this path; in many ways, it chose me. The need to create, to share, to connect through art—it’s something I have to do. It’s not about chasing a paycheck; it’s about answering a calling—scratching an itch that never stops.
Sure, it’s scary sometimes. But it’s also the most exhilarating, fulfilling, and authentically me thing I can do.
Here’s what most non-creatives might not realize: when you’re doing something you love—something that speaks to your soul—it stops being just a career and becomes your life. You’re not just working to live; you’re living to make something meaningful. It’s a risk, yes—but it’s also the reward.
