We were lucky to catch up with Linda Uribe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Linda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
Currently the educational system follows a one size fits all model, often times leaving students discouraged and with a sense of unworthiness that in some instances causes them to give up all together. The educational system should focus on an individual’s talents and interests. It would create a more fulfilled, productive, and happy society. I can’t name one instance in which I have used calculus in my life (that’s my personal experience). Basic life skills should be as important as science and math, learning how to prepare your taxes and manage basic finances in addition to a course in self-awareness and how our actions affect others. Teachers should be paid as much as doctors. Children are the future; we should invest in them as such. I feel it’s key to teach the importance of nature and protecting our planet, a strong emphasis should be placed on the vital importance of maintaining a healthy “real world” and a course should be thought on how to navigate social media in a way that doesn’t negatively affect our relationship with reality and ourselves.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Curated Space was conceived as an idea incubator that operates in the creative and more traditional industries such as real estate. Ultimately both are dependent on the other to be innovative, engaging, and interesting. We understand that our success and ability to give back depends on our ability to create revenue, with a focus on return on investment giving equal importance to monetary & time returns. We are problem solvers and view our clients as partners and collaborators. We help you create a plan to achieve your goals and ideas in a way that is easy to follow, if you dream it, we can get you there. From launching an art project, to developing and executing restaurant and hotel projects, to installations, or simply reinvigorating your brand. We have you covered.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our magic sauce is composed of direct and honest communication, setting realistic expectations, and reliability. While it’s tempting, we never bite more than we can chew. We know what we know and what we don’t know. We keep things simple and focused.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Culture is a vital part of success many companies overlook. The team needs to understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. In many instances companies just tell people what to do but they neglect to explain “the why”. This creates a disconnect. When you explain to a person the importance of a task it creates an emotional connection and a sense of pride. It is also vital that the team is trained and supported with the tools needed to be successful. Leading by example is also key. Investing in the wellbeing of your team is a no brainer, it yields a tremendous return on investment that benefits all. In many instances people spend more time at work than they do with their family and friends, we must do our part to make the work environment healthy and enjoyable.
