Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Linda Tullis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Linda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I have always wanted to be a singer since I was very young. Growing up I listened to a lot of 1950’s and 1960’s music because of my parents. I remember singing and performing songs in front of my fireplace. It was like a stage. Listening to the radio and singing to songs in my room was my escape from the world. I would have loved to have started my singing career sooner but, life happens. I knew that I wanted to get married and have children that was very important to me. I knew that I was talented but, I just needed to be in the right place at the right time. I met my musical match who is now my husband. Together we create music. He plays guitar and I sing. It’s a match made in musical heaven. It’s never too late to follow your dreams. Shoot for the stars and make it happen.
Linda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been in a few bands over the years. Most recently I am the lead singer for Ocean Highway. We have music out on all major music platforms. Our music has a great mix of county, rock and contemporary. I was nominated for Female vocalist of the year and female songwriter of the year by the Josie Music Awards 2022. This year we were nominated for group of the year 2023. This was very exciting. We have worked very hard to put out songs that people can relate to. It’s so wonderful to get recognized for all the hard work that we put into the music. None of this would have been possible without the musical talents of Andy Tullis (Lead Guitarist) and Sergio Maggie (drummer). We do all of our own production mixing and mastering. We are continually creating songs and releasing new music. We are looking forward to 2024.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Making music and singing is always going to be a big part of my life. From songwriting to musical production there is a lot that goes into it. Once the music and the lyrics are complete that’s when the magic starts for me. I can take the words off the page and make them my own. The way I phrase the lyrics, the tone of my voice. It all comes together when I get in the zone and can feel the emotion of the song and the music. Every once in a while, I feel emotional when I sing. If the lyric reminds me of something that has happened to me or if I think about someone I care about. That will affect how I may sound on a track. I think when that happens it creates magic. That’s what people relate to. To me it can be therapeutic. Music really does heal the soul.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel that the most rewarding part of being a recording artist is having your voice heard. Singing on songs that have a story to tell. Songs that make people feel good and want to sing along. Performing live shows where you can feel the energy of the crowd that is something that any singer ‘or performer craves. Releasing new music is always a thrilling experience. It’s the chance to get your music out to the world and just pray they love it as much as you do. That’s what it’s all about. Make yourself happy and others will follow. There are always ups and downs but as a recording artist never stop following your heart. As a matter of fact, sing your heart out! That is just what we do.
