We were lucky to catch up with Linda Sharpe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Linda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
This might sound like an odd choice for this question, but the kindest thing any client has done for me was to gift me with a Funko Pop Vinyl figure. While creating the aesthetic for my suite, I decided to add a personal touch by decorating with part of my home Pop collection. Initially, I thought my clients would find my choice in decor a little odd, but not out of place. Imagine my surprise when I started to get so many compliments on my collection. Then one day, a returning client of mine gifted me with a Loki Pop to add to my collection. It made me feel seen and accepted. It has also inspired me to set aside specific shelving to display the Pop figures that are gifted to me. So far, I have 2 of this type of gift and I am looking forward to receiving and displaying more. I absolutely love my clients and its nice to know and feel that my clients feel the same way about me.
Linda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2011 I started my journey in the health & wellness industry by enrolling in massage school. In 2013, I enrolled in esthetic school. I have been working in this industry ever since. In 2021, I went into business for myself with a handful of clients. I gave myself 3 months to sink or swim, and I am proud to say that in September 2023 I will have been in business for 2 years. These past 2 years have definitely brought challenges and uncertainties, and I am proud to say the LJB Skincare & Massage is growing. I currently offer massage, facials, body treatments, and waxing. My menu is expanding to include mobile services/parties, advanced skincare treatments, and lash extensions. Within the next 5 years, I plan to launch my own skincare product line so that I am able to better serve my clients. I truly feel blessed to be able to be of service to my clients, and to give them a moment of peace during their busy lives.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When I started my business in 2021, I only had a handful of clients. It was just enough to keep up with rent for my suite. Early in 2022, I took a class on building your client list through Groupon. In March 2022, I launched my first 3 Groupon campaigns. Groupon has definitely been instrumental in getting new clients through the door. I have been fortunate in being able to turn some of my Groupon clients into long term regular clients.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
To fund my business, I used that year’s tax refund and Go Fund Me. It was actually a little surprising and a lot heartwarming to see how much support I got from Go Fund Me.
