Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Linda Pullinsi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Linda, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
A recent project that was very meaningful was creating a mural with grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren as a professional teaching artist with Free Arts of AZ. The mural was on nurturing and everyone took part in the design and execution. At the wrap up when we discussed the project, a few of the grandparents cried as they expressed gratitude in being able to play and create together.
I have been working with Free Arts for nearly 30 years in several different roles including mentor, camp counselor, and professional teaching artist. I have witnessed so much healing through the creation of art. I have also taught art several places around the valley, most recently at Scottsdale Artists’ School where I’ve been teaching for the past 20 years.
I’ve discovered that no matter how folks have been raised, there are usually some feelings of unworthiness due to their childhood and I have learned ways to help them release it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always loved to draw and create things. I began, like many artists, with a degree in graphic design. When my children were small I began to paint and study with professional artists, first through community colleges and eventually at Scottsdale Artists’ School. Along the way I began to teach, first in watercolor to children and then adults. My volunteer work for Free Arts helped me hone my teaching skills to help folks heal and feel confident through their art lessons.
Now I’m painting in all media and spend a lot of my time outdoors painting landscapes “en Plein air” in oils. I’m selling my work and competing in events. I still teach adults at SAS.
What I’m really proud of is my small weekend retreats where I help a handful of people release their inner artist in beautiful locations throughout the southwest. I also have an online art school and will soon offer personal coaching. I love helping others feel the joy that comes from creating.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2015 I started a paint and sip business called Perfectly Personal Paint Parties, encouraged by a friend. For 6 years I helped hundreds of people paint in acrylics in a fun, party atmosphere. Then I realized this type of teaching was not fulfilling me. I needed a more meaningful experience for anyone I was teaching.
I had taught a few weekend retreats and knew I could really make a difference in students lives with intentional art projects presented to small groups. I love the outdoors so naturally chose beautiful, inspirational settings. Now I feel I’m really helping folks express themselves creatively.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I have been teaching for many years so that has really helped build my mailing list. I do occasionally post free video lessons and that helps gather followers. I think being genuine is a huge part of gaining followers as well. Also being willing to volunteer with worthy organizations. I try to live to give and people that know me get that.
I would never try to buy a mailing list as those people wouldn’t know who you really are.
Find your tribe. Reach out to like minded souls. Help others. Stay positive.
