We were lucky to catch up with Linda Parra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Linda, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I inherited a large dental practice, which brought its own unique challenges. Just because something has worked for years doesn’t guarantee its continued success; it’s essential to adapt to the ever-changing industry to remain relevant. This can be particularly difficult in an older practice with long-standing employees, but evolving is crucial.
Starting your own practice from scratch can be incredibly challenging, but the pressure to maintain the success of an established practice presents its own set of difficulties.

Linda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My father was a dentist, so I believe that passion for the profession is in my DNA. My mother, on the other hand, is a natural businesswoman and a people person, and these two qualities significantly shape my professional identity.
There is a great deal of stigma and dental anxiety surrounding our field, making it challenging to work in a profession that isn’t always well-received by the public. However, at our practice, we strive to make dentistry as caring and compassionate as possible to ensure that every patient feels comfortable. I truly believe that treating people as individuals makes all the difference.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My partner is my husband, who is also a dentist. As you can imagine, working with a spouse is never easy. Early on in our practice, we learned to define our roles and make a conscious effort not to step on each other’s toes. We each have our own strengths and virtues, and we leverage those to bring out the best in each other for our practice.
We’ve also had to teach ourselves to leave work at work and avoid discussing the office outside of it. This can be incredibly challenging, but I believe we’ve managed to find a balance.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
think Word of mouth recommendations and honest reviews is what drives business more than any other factor, but I will mention the importance of social media presence. It must reflect what your business stands for. Social media is an important marketing investment and it’s worth every penny.
