We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Linda Carmo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Linda below.
Hi Linda, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have worn all the hats for my business at one time or another. I created my own website and did all the social media postings to get some traction in my market. As I got busier and more well known, I knew I couldn’t do it all and do it well. I hired a company to create my website, and I get many compliments on it. I still do my own social media, however. My audience seems to enjoy my before and after postings, and it’s a great way to get in front of new clients. As I grow, I’m sure I will need to outsource these tasks, but I do enjoy the creativity of it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I own and operate Linda Loo Designs, which specializes in cabinet refacing and refinishing. It is a niche market that has been underserved, and I was lucky enough to have found my way into it.
This is my third career. I worked as a chef for 15 years after earning a culinary degree. But after having my children, I needed something with hours more conducive to family life. I went back to school and became a Dental Hygienist, which had better hours and pay, but wasn’t very creative. After 17 years, I started flipping furniture as a side gig and loved it. It somehow evolved into cabinet refinishing, and really took off. I quit my job and dove in head first, creating a brand and focusing on the client experience.
I researched to find the best products and processes to use, and got hands-on training by other professionals. I help clients navigate through colors selection and coordinating all the elements of their space. I pride myself on exceptional communication and exeeding expectations. My tag line is
“You deserve to ❤️ your kitchen!” and my goal is always a very happy client.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The home improvement/contracting sphere doesn’t have the best reputation, from not showing up to a job, not communicating the process or running over a budget or timeline. I have often been told that many don’t even return phone calls for estimates.
I knew this and wanted to be different.
My clients often compliment how quickly I get back to their inquiries, confirming consults, showing up on time and being professional. They are willing and happy to write detailed reviews describing their experience, and rave about how beautiful their kitchen turned out.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
It may sound corny, but often times, my clients say they’re going to miss me when their project is completed. I think the rapore you have with clients is just as important as how well you did the job. I leave them with a “goodie bag” that has a jar of extra paint, care instructions, microfiber cloths, and travel mugs with my logo. Most of my clients follow me on social media to see what I’m working on next, and that often helps with new leads. I also email a quarterly newsletter, focusing on
recent projects and current trends in the trade.
