We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LINA RINCON a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LINA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
To be an artist is to be a risk-taker, experimenting with possible failure, or finding your niche and being successful. However, as is always the case, there will be a risk. On the other hand, there can be the potential discovery of something completely new, amazing, unique, and original. When I decided to move to Florida, I knew that I was taking a risk to be in a new environment. I was trying to put my name out again and to introduce myself to the community. A new gallery made a dream come true but at the same time it was a risk and a learning experience. It wasn’t just the gallery and selling art, it was creating a business plan, learning about insurance, taxes, and all the necessities to have a small business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My story as an artist started when I was a little girl, when I loved to redecorate and move the furniture around at my parents house. Then I knew that I loved everything that I could do with my hands. Later in life, I went to college to pursue Interior Design and work as a designer. I immigrated to the United States to Florida with my family but had difficulties with the language. I had to find another way of living and I started working with children. It was not until I started getting out and saw the wonderful places we have around that I decided to register in photography classes at USF. After I got my certification was when I decided to pursue my artistic carrier. I moved to Texas in 2012 and I started painting and working so hard with the community in order to make a name for myself. It wasn’t easy, but I dedicated many hours to helping other artists and open opportunities with the community.
Two year ago I relocated to Sarasota, Fl where I opened my Art Gallery “Lina Rincon Art Gallery & Studio” where I show my art and also I continuing participating on show around Usa and aboard.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
First, being an artist is the most amazing job in the world. Being an artist gives you the opportunity to connect with people, to express my feelings and show the world in a different way. The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when you connect with collectors, having the opportunity to tell the story behind the painting. Each masterpiece has a story behind it, an artist always gets inspired by something or someone. When the collector takes the art to their house and sends a picture to show you, it makes a big impact in the artist’s life.
My new series “Color symbolism” represents a new stage in my life, and each color has a meaning and can evoke different emotions. I want my collectors to match their emotions with one of my paintings.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It has never been a smooth road. There are always big challenges in my life, and it wasn’t easy. I’m a cancer survivor. This can sound cheesy but being in that situation made me realize that life is too short and now I look at things in a different way. Every time that I saw the ocean and nature, I thank God for letting me admire the wonders that he provided for us.
At one point, When I was thinking that everything was good, my house caught fire and I lost everything. But my dreams are big and gave me the strength to start from zero again. After living 12 years in Texas, I relocated to Florida where I opened an art gallery. I think this is the dream for a lot of artists and I feel so proud of myself for making it possible.
Now I am working hard creating a new series, showing the community my work, and continuing with my Art Immersion Program, where I commit to teach children art, give them the opportunity to build a portfolio, show their art and learn about art history.
