Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lina Mapes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lina , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would say the most meaningful project I’ve ever put out is actually a tie for two of the projects. First of all, I released my initial debut song off guard right at the beginning of 2020 when the pandemic hit and I went through a personal tragedy. I lost my uncle to suicide at the beginning of 2020, and as the pandemic soon started to hit I realize that there was a lot of people losing people so unexpectedly. Offguard was my way of coping with my emotions of dealing with his loss and it allowed me to connect emotionally with so many other people who were dealing with loss at the exact same time. The second most meaningful project I believe I put out, is the release of my EP, introspection, at the beginning of August 2022. The word introspection by definition is The look deeply inside oneself to find inner truth. The project for creating introspection took me through a journey both emotionally, mentally, and sometimes even physically that journey consisted of finding out who I was as an artist, but also as a person, as a young woman. That project was a manifestation of everything that I had been through in life up until that point coupled with every thought good and bad that I had about where I was present with hope for where I would be in the future. The kick off song from my album is entitled fantasy and that’s exactly what it begins with me fantasizing about my dreams and my passions which all revolve around music the second song is obsession and that’s truly what happens to a lot of artists we get really obsessed in lyrics and words and beats in music. The next song on the album is champagne and that song is not really about with the title says it’s more about vices. How as human beings we sometimes fall into bad habits or situation is just a deal with the things that are around us and the things that stress us. The second to last song any albums called I don’t know I’m not really speaks more to the doubts that I have had as an artist. Doubts about myself my ability to be able to succeed going forward in life and the last song is called broken, but it’s not really about being broken it’s about excepting yourself for who you are without perfection and knowing that you just have to strive through and be the best that you can be. These two projects were very important pieces of my life, a part of my artistry, and they’ve helped me grow as a person. These songs were my journey into music and I’m really excited about the upcoming projects I’m putting together now.

Lina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For people who don’t know me, my name is Lina Mapes and I start in the music industry about six years ago. If you ask my parents they’ll say I was singing before I was even talking, but I truly got into music around the age of 14 where I wrote the debut song off my EP, Introspection, called Fantasy. I’ve always loved music and as soon as I started my first songwriting session, my first vocal lesson, I knew it was the only thing I would ever want to do. I would say I’m most proud of the journey that I’ve come from in music starting at such a young age, and I’m looking forward to where I’m going to go next. Songwriting is an amazing passion of mine and I’m always writing, so new music will be coming soon!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me I would say the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when people are able to connect with the songs that I write. With songwriting being such an enormous passion of mine, I always have this little thought about how much I want people to could be able to connect to the lyrics, songs that I write. I’ve always said whenever I started a new project, perform somewhere, or started writing a new song that I didn’t have to have the most popular song in the world. I didn’t have to have this song that everybody knew every single one of the lyrics to, that was played loudly on the radio for all the world to hear, I wanted this song that people could connect to. I wanted to song that could make people feel something, relate something back to their own personal experiences. Music is so rewarding to me when I can finally do that for other people.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I would say the biggest lesson I had to learn, and the biggest challenge I’ve had, is learning that music is meant to be collaborative. Initially when I started in music, I had a large problem with change, whenever somebody would change my lyrics, the tracks, when they were just give me a helpful suggestion I was less than happy to receive it. But overtime I’ve learned that music is meant to have many different voices in it, to make a great piece of work you need to have a lot of different peoples points of view and opinions and voices to be heard. Over growing that was a very hard challenge for me, some thing I still deal with today, trying to create an amazing piece of work means a lot of people have to work towards a similar goal.
